It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
... View MoreTells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
... View MoreThe film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.
... View MoreAmazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
... View MoreDon't get me wrong. The series was a great ride. It started great, just like other series do (e.g. Lost, Fringe) and just like them, opened up a number of possibilities. But alas -unfortunately- just like them, it had such a disappointing ending! So many answers remained unexplained. The story begins with a mystery room, a motel's room number 10, that can only be accessed via a special key. There's a hunt for this key and the room's objects which all have magical properties. So the hunt continues for 5 great episodes. And then you got the ending. Spoilers follow: Who was this character in the room? Why was he "chosen" to be another "object"? Why should he die? Why didn't the main character remain in the room as the future "object"? What was this room? How did it all start? What happened to the Order and the Legion who were seeking the objects? These are a few of the questions that remain unanswered, leaving the viewer dissatisfied and -quite frankly- angry with the show. Just like I said, a great ride, with a horrific (not in a fun way) destination.
... View MoreDO NOT READ MY REVIEW IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SERIES TO THE END!!!! From the start it became clear the people who wrote this must've been trying to fight being religious and scientific, which in one way was interesting, but because The Event, which the WHOLE series is based around is never explained it ends up killing the whole show. We have no clue about why the objects do what they do, and with how the show ended with a cliff-hanger of sorts it left far too many questions and not enough answers. Like what happened to Ruber or Miller...shame. Maybe they had thought they were gonna have the option to do a full series or another mini series and it didn't happen. In the end i feel like I wasted a lot of time.
... View MoreSyFy is known for their Mini-Series. Many of the programs on this channel are throwaway B-Movie junk, but occasionally the network airs something great: Tin Man, Alice, Taken. The Lost Room belongs with those great mini-series as the best SyFy has offered and the best Mini-Series ever. The story revolves around a father, Joe Miller played by Parenthood and Six Feet Under star Peter Krause, looking for his "lost" daughter, Anna played by Elle Fanning of Super 8 and We Bought a Zoo. Actually, Joe knows exactly where Anna is, but cannot get to her because she is lost in some other dimension...long story, and I won't spoil it. The production itself is great: acting, direction, and special effects are top notch. Dennis Christopher and Kevin Pollack have standout performances, but everyone plays their roles well. The only knock against the series is that it leaves a lot of questions unanswered. However, a good film is supposed to resonate with viewers. This film certainly sparked conversation, and always in a good way. I watched the show with a room full of high schoolers, and it kept them hooked for the three days we watched it. The greatest quality about the series is its creativity and ingenuity. Without going into too much detail, the characters are forced to work together in order to gather the "objects". Each object has its own special power - some better than others. The watch can hard boil and egg, but the key can take you to any room, anywhere in the world. Some objects, when combined, have more interesting powers. All of this makes for a highly engaging show that spans six 45 minute episodes. I do recommend not to watch them all back to back. The conversations that we had in between episodes were as much fun as watching them. If you are looking for an intelligent show or are sick of the droll programming on cable, find The Lost Room.
... View MoreI enjoyed this mini series very much. Originally, I was going to watch part one of three yesterday and eventually get around to the next two parts, but this series sucked me in like a black hole. I ended up watching all 3 parts back to back. The curious thing is that when it comes to video, my wife and I usually like very different things. In this case she got just as sucked into it as I did, and enjoyed it about as much. The writing and acting are very well done and while there are a few small continuity errors (every film has them), they are minor and easily forgiven. What I really enjoyed was the storyline and plot.Ah the plot... I read 77 reviews that were given before mine and some of the reviews complained about the plot. How it was incomplete and the story was far from finished. I don't think that some of the viewers know what the plot or story is.The story is not about the Event or the Occupant or even despite the name of the series, the Lost Room. The story is about Joe Miller's involvement with the previous items in the search for his daughter. I don't think the series ever intended to explain even a majority of the Who, What, Where, When and HOW of the Room. The story is about one man's interaction with it.One review I read earlier said that it was like watching the second LOTR movie without seeing the third. I wonder if the reviewer has ever read LOTR? Bilbo makes a comment that his story is one little piece of the big story which just goes on and on. I don't think this was meant to be a story of THE ROOM (like LOTR was the story of THE RING), this was more like Bilbo's story in The Hobbit. His interaction with events far beyond his comprehension. With that in mind, I think the writers did an excellent job. But the true test is that you enjoy watching this show. That's it in a nutshell. It Is Entertaining. So go ahead, rent it or download it or buy it. Then enjoy it.
