Peter Krause, Julianna Margulies, Peter Jacobson, Elle Fanning, Margaret Cho, Harriet Samson Harris, Dennis Christopher, Kevin Pollak, and Roger Bart are featured in this 2008 sci-fi miniseries.Krause plays Detective Joe Miller, who, during a murder case, comes across a motel key. When he opens the room, it turns out to be a portal to another dimension or alternate universe. If he puts something in the room and leaves, when he returns, the room has "reset" and the item is gone. His daughter goes into the room and disappears,as the room resets because she, the occupant, does not have the key. Joe is desperate to find her and goes into a full investigation of the room and anyone involved with it.He learns that there are special objects that did not look special that have special powers. It could be anything, combs, pens, cards, bus tickets, watches -- each can do something, for instance, quickly get you to another place, stop time, put people to sleep, open doors. And in combination, they can do even more. There are over 100 of them, and everyone is after them, particularly one man (Kevin Pollak) who will do anything to get them.I'm usually not one for science fiction, but this was an intriguing premise and it was well done. Peter Krause and Julianna Margulies turn in wonderful performances, as do Roger Jacobson and Kevin Pollak. I looked at some reviews and it appears this was supposed to be a series. I guess nothing happened with it. It's a shame as it was very good and certainly had potential to continue.

Once again I apologize to the reader and to the IMDb people for trying to give a rating higher than 10, but this is some of the finest television efforts ever. Before doing this review, I reviewed several lists of "excellent" mini series. An incredibly high percentage were period pieces, drenched in pompous accents; or simply drenched in pompous accents with no special time frame or period. In other words, to do a mini-series based on a sci-fi theme AND DO IT RIGHT without relying on aliens, ghosts, ghouls, robots or some other monster is an almost impossible feat and this crew (which included revolving directors and writers) nailed it out of the box. Other reviewers have covered the plot, or at least tried to, because this one has so many twists and turns that it makes the Matrix look like it should be introduced by Kermit. Let me say that I originally missed the first episode but caught the rest in proper sequence. I was so gob-smacked by what I saw that I waited until our our local station reran the entire series in the summer, and watched the whole thing again, beginning to end, and enjoyed it even more. Acting first-rate. Especially nice seeing Julianna Margulies shortly after she disappeared from a prominent medical series. Kevin Pollak steals all his scenes, normally a comic, he plays a baddie and does a great job. Early Elle Fanning makes this a treat for film buffs. Look, this is not my usual review style, but if there was a 20 rating available I would give this the higher number. There are still bits of the story that haunt me and I would happily see it a third or fourth time.

When I first started watching The Lost Room I really didn't think I would like it, but after the first half an hour I was hooked and couldn't stop watching it. I think overall everything was really good but there were some things that I did not like about the miniseries. For the people they picked for the actors and actresses I think they did a good job. To me all the actors and actresses were really good and they all really played out their character. Especially Joe Miller (Peter Krause) when his daughter disappeared through Room 10 he was going to do anything and everything to get his little girl back. Also I really liked how they added a couple characters, Wally Jabrowski (Peter Jacobson) and Harold Stritzke (Ewen Bremner) in the show to give the audience a good laugh. All the characters in this show really brought out the miniseries though.I was happy with the story but there were some things that I did not like. I really liked where they went with it everything just fitted together. One thing that I really didn't like was the ending. They could have gone on so much longer with the miniseries, it was a cliffhanger. They could have gone and explained what all the objects do or find out what they did. That was one thing that I was disappointed about is that we don't know what all the objects do. Only the choice few that was important to get Joe Miller's daughter back. Also at the end when Joe finally did get his daughter out of Room 10 they could have went and had Anna Miller (Elle Fanning) explain where she actually went and all the things she seen. Also whatever happened to Dr. Ruber (Dennis Christopher) no one knows. Did he continue searching for the objects with The Order or did he just stop? Another thing that really got me was at the end when Joe put the Hotel Room 10 Key in the room, shut the door, and then opened it again it was gone, but right before the series ended it showed the room key still laying on the floor.Overall though I really loved this miniseries, everything was amazing it all fit together and it just wasn't thrown together it was really planned out. I would really love to see this show come back and continue with a series.

so here I am watching and loving this mini-series, and what happens at the end? I don't know! It doesn't end. There is no resolution. No "coming together." No real questions answered. No meaning of the legion and "Rube." I am so frustrated with the mini series. SciFi owes the viewing public an explanation and an apology. This was a great premise-fun to watch and totally absorbing. I couldn't get enough until the lousy ending. And, when Kevin Pollack changes eyes, where is all the blood? Where was Anna? Why did the legion not fight back when Joe was in the vault? How did John Doe end up an object? Why was room "9" an evil room? So many questions unanswered and left out reason.
