... View MoreIt was OK. I don't see why everyone loves it so much. It wasn't very smart or deep or well-directed.
... View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
... View MoreThere are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
... View MoreIf you accept this as a so bad it's almost good kind of B movie then you may enjoy this low budget war movie. When the hero is the creepy kid from Desperate Housewives you know it can't be too serious a movie.First of all they couldn't even bother with an authentic looking country farmhouse in France. The white wooden house looks straight from the deep South. At first it was quite novel seeing women in a post D Day scenario - how often do you see that on screen. The actresses are a little too well groomed and unconvincing. They look out of place. There are many times when you just want to shout shoot him or just let him or her die they are so stupid. There is a ridiculous hand to hand boxing match that is just hilarious. The eventual nerd to Rambo situation is almost laugh out loud funny.Watch it as a comedy.
... View Morewell it is an OK movie but it does run pretty slow, and there are a few really silly bits in there, like the stereotypical gigantic bodybuilder evil bald Nazi and the stereotypical evil Nazi who apparently can't speak either English or German very strange? But agreeing with others Tino Struckmann did a great supporting role, very solid only with they had followed up on some of the obvious subplots that could have been, and perhaps it would have a more solid film had Struckmann lead the film. The females were completely unengaged, and some of the others who before had done solid seemed flat. Perhaps it is the story, nothing original or new, sad a missed opportunity I feel.
... View MoreThe last thing we needed was another low budget, badly scripted and poorly edited war film with re-enactors who can't act for toffee; but we don't always get what we want. The plot is that it's 1944 and some American soldiers are lost behind enemy lines. One of them has a whoopsie in the trench and his Captain gets injured. This gives the makers the excuse to have some nurses in the mix too - for l'amour as it were. Then they have to get back to their lines etc etc.Now the acting is actually OK in places so that is a break with the norm. The vehicles are all real but we have a tendency to use American materiel and drape a Swastika over the front to disguise it and fool us all into thinking it really is German. Why camouflage a vehicle then advertise it with a ruddy big red, white and black flag? The music is a bit too dramatic - especially as there is very little action. The scenes go on far too long; this needed some vigorous editing to be honest. There is no tension and any that does build up soon evaporates in the lack of anything happening. The guns are OK in places but those with a keen eye will see some of our Nazi bods sporting a rather 'ahead of its time' AK 47. The uniforms are a bit ropey, there are too many plot holes to bother with and the cover art work is pure fantasy.I tried to find something positive, and apart from some efforts in the acting department - there is nowt - even the plot is so dire and plain bad it is enough to make one cringe; its isn't even so bad that it is funny. If you want to waste your time you could clean your naval button fluff out instead it will be more rewarding.
... View MoreThe movie is set in France after D-day. You'll see some WWII hardware - tanks, vehicles, etc., but most of the battles are more intimate warfare - guns, knives, stand-offs, and a fist fight in a POW camp. The movie has some action, but it actually has more suspense than action as a group of American soldiers that are stranded behind enemy lines try to get to safety with their own German POW in tow. The movie chronicles the external struggles of the group on their journey but also the internal struggles of what each character in the group e is grappling with. I liked that character exploration. Just when things were starting to slow down, a new twist comes up for the group, and they are thrust into more danger. Solid independent film with some scenes of great directing full of suspense and tension as well as beautiful cinematography. And overall, the core cast is very good.
