Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.

As someone else has commented there are a lot of similarities between this movie and the Tom Selleck Jesse Stone series of films. At least this one avoids the smugness which permeates the Selleck movies. However the biggest problem with The Last Harbor is that it is extremely slow paced. The scenes of the police investigation are interspersed with the cops battle with the bottle and his deteriorating relationship with his daughter. In fairness there are four obvious murder suspects, all of whom appear shifty and it is not until the final scenes that the identity of the killer becomes obvious. Just enough interest is generated to make you want to sit through to the final reveal but it just isn't very exciting.

Wouldn't say this is a B movie feels more like a made for TV movie but it rolls along nicely. The movie is a slow burn cop thriller murder mystery similar to something you may see on the BBC there are no big action scenes shoot outs or car chases like so many cop thriller seem to have.Unlike the other review i think the acting was fine especially the lead actor Wade Williams who was very believable as the alcoholic police chief i have seen far worse in many so called big budget movies and the story though kinda slow was nicely done. Good movie to watch with older parents or grand parents no sex no noticeable swearing,I'm no prude and watch everything but its hard to find a decent movie you might like to watch with say your parents that is not full of the f word or the obligatory sex scene that really has no bearing on the plot.I got my mum 70years old to watch and she enjoyed.Hope this helps.

Should be renamed the Last Resort, because that's what it felt like watching it, it was sooooooooooooo slow, the acting and actors were abysmal, there was only Wade Williams that i had seen before, he was the sadistic warder in Prison Break, and i think his performance in this film was the worst of the lot. with out giving stuff away, it seemed to be a very cheap copy of Tom Selleck's "Jesse Stone" series, but the only similarity was, drunk cop, harbour town, dead girl, from there it is just plain bad, in fact thinking about it, one of the Jesse Stone films was nearly identical, but with good acting and directing.Don't waste your time on this at all, but if you do , don't say I did not tell you???

I really didn't know what to expect with this one, but the movie took a tense edge from the start and the leading actor who i do not know was perfect in the role as a cop with a sad life and an alcohol problem. The plot was tight and unrolled slowly and with a plan, it kept you watching not knowing what to expect next. The intertwined story of lovers and rich folks and a hooker always gives a plot a good edge and this was no exception, don't get me wrong this was a low key thriller not a dirty harry style movie but it was moody enough to leave me feeling happy with the ending and not like i had wasted my time. i really enjoyed this movie and i would recommend it for anyone who like good B Movies with a plot.
