I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction

It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

'The Jungle Bunch: The Movie' may not have a lot to it that's unforgettable or innovative, but it is a colourful and well-meaning effort that doesn't overdo it with the comedy or the violence. While it is short on inspiration and originality, it will entertain children and while adults will pick faults with it they shouldn't be bored by it either. It does have things in its favour. The animation is bright and colourful, not imaginative but it looks decent at least. The characters have the odd stiff movement but are not too badly designed and look cute, though it's the rich in detail backgrounds and vibrant colours that impress more. Most of the characters, while not particularly well developed, are fun and likable, with a protagonist that's easy to root for and some fun-loving support. The music is catchy and things go at a lively enough pace.Voice acting has a lot of enthusiasm with the voice actors characterising cleverly and engagingly. There is some amusing comedy and while there is some violence it is of the mild kind and won't be too scary or dark. There is no doubt who the target audience is and there is a real effort to appeal to all ages and include things that give the story heart and sincerely good intentions without being heavy-handed.Not without mishaps though. The character of Fred is annoying and the constant speaking in rhymes grates fast rather than being witty or intriguing. There is a very weak and pointless musical number. The story is fun and charming enough but does feel like a TV episode stretched to nearly an hour at times and comes over as formulaic and padded.Overall, nothing inspiring but a decent effort. Have seen some rubbish animations recently, this while not refreshing or mind-blowing surprised me pleasantly by being watchable. 6/10 Bethany Cox
