There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

What seems to be one of the most relevant questions of today is would you take Ryan Reynolds or Ryan Gosling? Especially after Deadpool most say Reynolds in a heartbeat. Personally, I've been more of a fan of Gosling ever since Drive. So I was excited about this movie. I also remembered that it would have Philip Seymour Hoffman (who I will abbreviate as PSH) which can only ever be a benefit, and the film was rounded out by the likes of Jeffrey Wright and Paul Giamatti. Right off the back this movie is built to be a dramatic powerhouse aiming at the Oscars. Ryan Gosling plays Stephen, a man just under the campaign manager (PSH) for George Clooney's democratic campaign in the primaries; the political aspect focuses on needing the delegates from Ohio's primary as the ticket to the White House. Giamatti comes in as the rival campaign manager, and Wright is a representative who has dropped out but has plenty of delegates and support to give to the candidate that promises him a cabinet post. All of this is good, smart stuff that is just asking to have a plot twist happen somewhere. You can just feel that there's going to be some kind of punch that drives the film through. But it totally falls flat. Gosling plays an optimistic staff worker who sees the best in his candidate, but as the movie goes on, he starts seeing the darker side of politics. This eventual darker turn is supposed to work well; however, without giving away any spoilers, the movie has a plot twist about an hour in and sticks with it through the remainder of the film. The problem is how basic the twist is. It feels like such a cop out. There's a bunch of political intrigue to dive into, but instead the movie takes a clichéd personal route where the characters all relate to each other in some "meaningful" way to tie it all up. And it's just lame. It's formulaic, and anyone who watches movies will be neither surprised nor interested in the plot twist. Okay, so the story and intensity let me down. "How about the acting?" you may ask. Well, good question, devoted readers. Overall, Gosling's character is pretty simple. It doesn't call for him to really do much besides be charismatic in the first half and darker in the second. It's a good performance, but there isn't much depth. Clooney limits his own screen time to focus on the directing, but what we do see of his character is pretty interesting. Again, the twist is lame, but that doesn't take away from his performance. Giamatti and Wright are always strong supporting characters. The real hero is PSH. I swear, this late actor was the actor of our generation. He has a very distinguished style in his acting, but every single character he has in every movie he does he makes his own. They're all different, interesting, and scene-stealing. It seriously hurts knowing that he died well before his time was due, but every movie I've watched with him is only ever elevated by his performance. The same goes for this movie. He may not carry the same kind of gravitas you see with A list actors, but the subtlety in his expressions and vocals is some of the greatest work I have ever seen. This by far isn't his best film, but it still brings me so much join watching PSH do his work. Honestly, I'd say stay away from this film. It's not a drama that will bore you by any means, but it won't have any effect on you at all. Except maybe that there's dirt in every profession, there isn't really a message to take away, and there was zero intensity necessary to make a true drama work. And it all stems from the plot twist an hour into the film. It's a shame to see a mistake like that basically ruin a decent film. The Ides Of MarchThe scrutiny is built up with sincerity and sensibly that doesn't alarm the viewers at all and keeps it mysterious and glorifying on its own terms whilst chewing off the inner circle of the characters that they all reside in. The writing is strong, thought-provoking, engaging and unpredictable that helps keep the viewers on the edge of the seat and offers enough homework to them which fortunately is worth working on and justifying too. The camera work is decent but isn't shot amazingly and is neither impressive on sound department, editing and other technical aspects of it. George Clooney; the screenwriter and director, has done a decent work on execution but it doesn't live up to its script which is utterly stunning. The performance objective is satisfied and the reason is the star power and their hard work which is clearly visible in here especially by Ryan Gosling and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The energy of the cinema is the primary reason why it fails to connect with each individual audience as there aren't much mutual combinations locked by the makers. The Ides Of March is a convoluted mishap of politics which is infomercial and accurate but also unfortunately easily forgetful.

Overall, this movie is good, and a one time watch, but it has a weird leftover taste to it, which doesn't settle. There just is something that with this movie that doesn't make one give it more than 3 stars. It's kind of a like-it but not-a-fan or not-too-interesting relationship going in the mind of the user after the movie. So I'm going to review this movie starting with what went good. The acting by all the lead actors is of course good, and that's not something one can bring this movie down really. With a strong A-list cast, it was bound to have some good performances. And Gosling, Clooney, Hoffman make sure you are not disappointed in that regard. Clooney even did a good job directing, and one can't feel that he really could have directed this. Clooney comes of looking good as and realistic and a presidential candidate and Gosling looks very convincing as the very idealistic Campaign Manager who slowly faces the "et Tu, brute" situation and realizing that not everything is as good as it looks, is forced to change himself. So, overall, there are some good performances in this movie. The cinematography, style of shooting, visual effects, and the catchy soundtrack add to creating that thrilling police air for the movie, which again make it gripping and interesting to watch. It keeps the viewer hooked that something interesting is going to happen soon. But alas, that's where the movie fails. Suddenly you realize the movie's over and that was it. Nothing that "big" happened. The Big groundbreaking scandal you were expecting, is not a love affair of a candidate with the intern. Maybe in the old times, but the current times when you have Trump running, with even wilder stuff for presidential candidates coming and going, where you hear political senators from the US engaging in all kinds of weird sexual acts and other scandalous items, this seems very small. There's that all this for that much? Question left when you are finished watching. You realize the some good acting was just wasted there on something that could have turned out to be really good. It's not the script, the movie has good dialogues and and quotes and the talks seem real. It's the overall story that has the fault. It's not as gripping and as much of polecat thriller as it wanted (or was trying) to be.The reason for Gosling to switch from the good to the "take-revenge" mode just didn't seem that strong enough. It wasn't presented well. There's so much that he could have done to prevent but no, it was just a mess with many loopholes. The movie starts of being very realistic, but when it mixes too much emotion all of a sudden, the reality the movie was going for, suddenly becomes less and brings the whole movie down. Overall, the story is pretty straightforward, and the message that the movie is trying to convey is quite simple, and thus puts a lot of pressure on the lead of the movie (gosling) to make it engaging or thrilling, but unfortunately, the character played by him isn't able to deliver that meat of the story required. The story lacks character development. It lacks the heart and soul it required from its protagonist and antagonist which could have made it a fierce completion and an edge of the seat thriller. The competition/fight/race to outshine each other between Clooney and Gosling's character just doesn't seem something actually worth getting into a rivalry for and doesn't seem to reach the intense heights it could have. And it's definitely not intellectual. It's not a smart movie. It doesn't make you think anything towards the end. It doesn't make the users feel connected to the characters. I couldn't feel myself in anyone's shows in the entire movie. Not a single character that could connect with he audience. You don't seem to learn anything new out of all that drama. Just the same old, same old.Overall, its not a bad movie, pretty enjoyable for a one time watch, but cannot make it to anyone's list of all-time favorites. It's not dull, but also not as sharp and exciting as it could have been. It's polished and refined, but the message isn't really clear.

We are on the full campaign in Ohio for the primary nomination for the presidential election in USA. This movie shows us with remarkable realism what goes on in the backstage of the campaign of the Democratic Party in case like it could happen with any other party. The difference between the principles and values publicly proclaimed and what is done behind is enormous. Even an apparently honest candidate is caught in an intrigue plot provoked by a sexual slip blunder of his own that makes him to put aside those good principles and values he has always defended and yield to a blackmail by a collaborator he had fired for supposed treason and now wants to be hired back. Curiously this collaborator begins to be presented as idealistic and supporter of those good values and principles however not to be followed tactically in the campaign as we see. Looks like that the ends justify the means although that same idealist had already been victim of a dirty trick by another member of the candidate staff. All intervenient performers do excellent roles and the story is full of authenticity and well and convincingly shown. Politics is dirty and dishonourable indeed in most cases.
