When a charming 12-year-old girl takes on the characteristics and voices of others, doctors say there is nothing they can do. I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

This whole movie is about how a preteen girl gets possessed by the Devil, and she starts talking dirty and spitting up, and a couple of celibate male Catholic priests have to moan and chant and sprinkle Holy Water all over her dirty sinful female body, and then finally the righteous male priests beat hell out of her with their fists and the Devil goes away. Evidently there are still people in this country who think that this is what civilization is all about -- virtuous men making war against the beastliness of human nature. What I think the movie is about is hatred of the human body, fear of female sexuality, and the connection between repression and sadism.

I expected much more, because I saw this film on many toplists and heard great things, but in the end I got disappointed. Maybe I've seen too many good horrorfilms, but this one left me cold and killed my hopes.

I am a Christian and do not find this offensive. It's just a movie, and Satan is shown in a negative light. Despite a slow beginning, it is essential and the rest of the movie is the payoff. There are many scary scenes such as a scene where a girl must jab her groin with a crucifix(to which she says the above quote.) She spins her head, spider crawls backwards while vomiting blood, she vomits all over people, pees in front of house guests, and more. While I can't personally say it's the scariest movie I have ever seen, or of all time as my DVD case claims, it was definitely terrifying and made for a good horror movie. I say it's worth a watch.

The Exorcist, a film more than forty years old, still holds up today as one of the definite greatest horror masterpieces ever. It left audiences shaking and in cold sweats, never sure what was coming next. The special effects are still superb, blending reality into fiction with the dedicated craftsmanship of the production team. The dialogue is absolutely bone-chilling, especially when such despicable words are uttered out of a girl's mouth in a demon's raspy voice. And something that may fall by the wayside in a viewer's conscious mind but absolutely was a key component in making the movie great was the cinematography; shots of chilling streets and spinning heads. The Exorcist is a movie any film buff should see and an absolute delight for any horror fan.
