Crappy film

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

All his life, Dan Landsman has never been the cool guy. That's about to change - if he can convince Oliver Lawless, the most popular guy from his high school who's now the face of a national Banana Boat ad campaign, to show up with him to their class reunion. Dan travels from Pittsburgh to LA and spins a web of lies to recruit Lawless. But he gets more than he bargains for as the unpredictable Lawless proceeds to take over his home, career, and entire life. Despite Black and Marsden's trying on making 'The D Train' watchable this comedy is really sinking rather than rising but also most of the comedic parts did not land and to be honest both of this 2 are good actors and deserved better. (5/10)

This is not a comedy. You'd think with the cast, you'd be laughing the whole way through, but I barely chuckled even once. The trailer makes it seem like it's a funny movie, but it's far more dramatic, and not even the good kind of drama. A little ways in, Black and Marsden end up having sex and it becomes all about how Black seems borderline in love with Marsden. The great actors in this chose a terrible plot with this one. Don't waste your time.

This is a comedy that is quite funny then things twist to a more serious mode but it's still incisively funny when it's dark.A small town is planning a high school reunion. Jack Black plays a guy who wants to get the popular kid from high school to attend. James Marsden plays the actor who made a national commercial on TV. Jack Black plays an annoying character but only he can make it acceptable and funny in a Shallow Hal kind of way. Could easily have been painful but somehow it isn't. James Marsden is very good - he plays strung out and washed out very well. It is good to see how actors can act beyond the action superhero or rom com roles. Some commentary about the small town guy making big but not really making it, high school vs adult hood, marriage and forgiveness. Things work out quite well and there is a proper wedding unlike some other indie movies.Different enough to be watchable.

This very good film shows that Jack Black, a guy who never left Pittsburgh after Community College, gets more than he bargained for when he tries to get someone from his high school days, who has seemed to make it big in Hollywood doing a major commercial, to attend the high school class reunion. To do this, Black lies to his boss that he is on the verge of making a big deal for the firm out in California, and needs to go there. The boss, who is reluctant to get into the 20th century and buy a computer, goes with him to California to cinch the deal. While there, Black sees the guy, a hip and cool James Marsden, and parties with him and ends the night in a sexual romp with him! While the boss may be too understanding when the truth comes out, the film is a good one as it shows ordinary people caught up in trying out a new way of life.
