One of the best films i have seen
... View Morei know i wasted 90 mins of my life.
... View MoreBoring, long, and too preachy.
... View MoreThe movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
... View Moreit is not exactly a movie with Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp. or a story of a small community. it is a testimony about things who remains roots of images. a film as a trip. the acting, the script, the music are leafs of a state of soul because it is just an universal case who reflects crumbs of every life. it is defined by something who seems be a kind of September wind. nostalgic, cold, painful, honest, delicate, cruel, it is only shadow of a choice. an option. and only sin remains the expectations of some viewers about director and lead actor. because, more than a movie by a terrible child of cinema, it is a poem. a confession. a sketch for the use of public emotions, experiences, choices. that is all.
... View MoreI truly love this film. Of all of Johnny's films so far, this one really touches me. I feel for Rafael and his family. No matter how many times I watch this film, I get very emotional knowing what is about to happen to Rafael. This film also shows Native Americans as they are and not in a white man's version of how they think Native Americans talk and act. I have a DVD from Korea but it is not the full-version and am participating in a letter writing campaign to Johnny Depp to ask him to release this beautiful film in it's entirety on Region One DVD form. If you would like to participate, please contact Firefly at bravecampaign@yahoo.com for details. This movie is worth seeing and should be seen in it's entirety!!!
... View MoreA while ago i was looking through my on-line rental list and i got recommended a film i had not heard of before called The Brave, the only details i could find is that it stars and was directed an co-written by Johnny Depp.So i picked it to rent, and i was very pleased to see that this is a fantastic film, and its a real shame that Depp has not directed again: The Plot: Depp plays an American Indian named Raphael,Raphael finds out the very run-down area where he and his family live,is going to get bulldozed over soon,so Raphael-who has a very "troubled" past, feels he has to do everything he can to get enough money so his family can move from the area.He goes to a old ware-house,where he is told he could get $50,000 for being in a snuff film (that will show him getting tortured and killed)Raphael accepts the offer, hes then told he has one week to sort everything in his life out, before he is murdered. But when a drug dealer hears about this,he tells Raphel that he will kill his wife and kids when he dies.So Raphel decides to take action..View on the Film: The person i must highlight is Johnny Depp. While Depp is known for doing very loud characters,he does a very different turn here. Here he seems to be a very somber person, and thought he is flawed- you do feel sympathy for him.Depp also does a great job at at showing someone who feels that death is tied to his legs.As a director Depp shows that if this was not sadly the only film he did,the he would be really special. The film has a very "elegiant" feel, that can proudly be put next to the films of Terrrnce Malick. He also does well when a part in the film that involves violence (thankfully not the Snuff film) he makes sure its not seen as a gore-hound and that you understand why Raphel is taking this action, and he does a very classy love-making scene, that puts most directors to shame.Final view on the Film: A truly amazing film, thats extremely under-rated,with fantastic acting and directing from Depp.
... View MoreThis is an altogether creepy replication of the inner states of mind that perpetuate themselves in class society. The notion that one should submit to all sorts of violent and humiliating forms of inner degradation which rob you of your life in order to support your family is experienced, in conventional society, as "the reality principle". The vulgar, self-indulgent and pointless, political, power-trip sadism of the bosses -- who are significantly, in this movie, decadent and repulsive, old, rich white men -- is reproduced with force. But then, it's a familiar scene to anyone familiar with certain religious doctrines: the father gives the son the power to do a miracle or two during his last days; but demands the ultimate sacrifice to pay for the "sins" of humanity, this time, not on a cross; but a medieval appearing torture chair, looking very much like a tool from some forgotten Inquisition. Indeed, the seller must pay the price of the sale, even it that seller is a miserable wage-slave trying to create a little temporary happiness in a garbage strewn world, gone to the dogs. The problem with this movie is that it makes you feel more than a bit ill inside and out. You know, at some level, that a parent's sacrificial lamb-like suicide for their child will not help to give their kids a life but will emotionally destroy the next generation and on ad infinitum, by leaving most of humanity with internal psychological scar and legacy which is masochism.Depp plays a Native American in the movie, a brave so to speak. And, he does have courage. He faces death at the hands of his employer. But, in this reviewer's opinion, this brave should have seen a better ending--with the death of the employer, not the implied death of the wage-slave; for in taking that path, a brave only ensures that the poor will always be with us.
