A fast and ferocious giant has roamed the Namibian desert for more than seventy million years – the ostrich. From the moment this bird first set foot on these sands it has faced an annual challenge: choosing the right moment to breed. The ostrich must ensure its clutch hatches around the time of the rains. If the timing is wrong, food will be scarce and the chicks will die. If its right, then a new generation gets the chance of a life on the run.
