Absolutely Fantastic

This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.

It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.

SPIKE is a cheesy indie fantasy, heavily indebted to the classic BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. The plot sees a trio of characters driving into the woods and getting lost, only to encounter a mysterious humanoid being which has designs on one of them. The whole film takes place in the dark and features consistently odd effects and dream imagery, with panthers and the like appearing. Unfortunately, the below par script means that this isn't romance, nor horrific, nor even interesting; just a dud.

I LOVED IT! I really did. Started as a typical horror film with a small group of friends stranded then we meet Spike! I mean yes, it is a just another slasher film but one that surprised me. The characters were typical fodder and that's alright in my book.So glad I bought the DVD! Wondering if it ever came out on blu ray.

Spike is a great Independent Horror Film. This movie reminds me of the kind spirit buried within the "Beast", from the classic tale of "Beauty and the Beast". Throughout the film, you transition from fearing "Spike" to feeling for him. The script was totally mastered by a believable cast of characters, who delivers flawlessly. I would recommend this film to all independent or "B" movie lovers. I was easily carried away by this romantic horror. I would definitely keep an eye on this film, I think its an obvious choice for cult classic status. I can see why Spike has won several independent movie awards. Robert Beaucage displays his talent for creating a "visual language of horror" in this innovative Gothic fantasy.

Was just talking about this film, so i thought i'd check out how it was doing on IMDb... i was one of the 'unlucky' folk to choose it at The Edinburgh film fest, i'm horrified to hear anyone suggest it had anything going for it. It as one of the most turgid films i've ever sat through... no-one on the way out of the cinema was saying anything good about it, one gentleman asked me and my friends what we thought as he was in shock at how bad, and to be frank, up it's own ars* the film was! Please those who have given it so much praise, be honest with yourselves and the readers of IMDb reviews, this film stank big time!i gave it 1 out of 10 for the sheer genius of the director/writer convincing anyone to make this movie... Just awful...
