So Close? Not Even Close is more like it, this showy but shallow action flick from the usually reliable Corey Yuen missing its mark by a mile. Shu Qi plays sexy assassin Lynn, Zhao Wei is her cute computer whizz sister Sue, and Karen Mok plays Yat Hong, the tough cop trying to track them down, but a trio of appealing female leads isn't nearly enough to compensate for the unexceptional plot and a glut of CGI and wire enhanced slow-motion action scenes that fail to get the adrenaline pumping.A dull romance between Lynn and an old flame drags things down even further, making it a long slog to the admittedly fun final showdown, which pits Wei and Mok against countless gun toting henchmen and a samurai sword wielding boss.I rate So Close a probably-too-generous 4/10 for the juicy squib work and the samurai sword fight, although I almost knocked off a point for all of the computer generated broken glass that isn't fooling anybody.

Just a great surprise -- great action and cast. The story-line is a bit comic-book like (think Batman) at times, but this just adds to the feeling that part of the enjoyment of the movie is being along for the ride and to not take it all too serious.Every good action movie it seems has a unique visual "trick" to show -- Matrix had "bullet time" for instance. This one they figured out how to make glass look like it is breaking and they use side wire tools that allow them to fly a bit like Spiderman (by making it part of the plot, it saved the special effect team having to paint the lines out).If you like action movies, and the cast, you will be very happy with this movie. I really appreciated the use of extended close ups on the faces -- something less and less common in Hollywood. Also a great soundtrack and the song "Close to You" (originally by the Carpenters) is just outstanding as a good (unusual) choice to make a couple of surreal moments.Hold on for a great ride.

Corey Yuen's girls with guns film "So Close (Chik yeung tin si)" is cartoonish and silly. By the end it has probably exhausted the list of Hong movie clichés, including lots of shoot ups with guns and over-choreographed fight scenes with humanly impossible stunts by the actors, but never mind. The three pretty female leads in the movie (Shu Qi, Zhao Wei and Karen Mok) are so much fun to watch that I didn't care. It creates characters I care about and want to watch. The movie is about the lives of a pair of super human sisters, Lin (Shu Qi) and Sue (Zhao Wei), who are assassins for hire, and the super human Hong Kong Police detective, Hong (Karen Mok), who is trying to catch them. Lin does the killing while her younger computer savvy sister Sue assists her with the help of their father's satellite tracking software. Lin is protective of her younger sister, insisting that she be the one who does the killing, in order to spare Sue the guilt that comes with being a killer. Lin has tired of being a killer and longs for the life of a normal person. She jumps at the chance to get out of the business when her boyfriend asks her to marry him. Believing that we all reap what we sow, Lin fears that she will eventually meet the same fate she has dealt her victims. Meanwhile, lonely Sue develops a crush on the detective hunting them down, Hong. It also happens that Sue is probably the biggest fan in Hong Kong of the Burt Bacharach and Hal David written song "(They Long to Be) Close to You". The song inspired the name for the English title of the movie. The cover of the song sung by Singaporean singer Corrinne May is featured prominently in the film, most notably at the beginning when it is played by Sue to help avoid a drug lord's security measures. A strange but interesting choice of music for a Hong Kong film.If you're looking for cinematic realism, then "So Close" is definitely not your kind of movie. I see "So Close" as akin to a super hero movie. There is no explanation why the three main female characters have such exceptional physical abilities, other than that they're possibly angels inhabiting the bodies of three Chinese women. Just sit back, enjoy the ride and you'll have a good time watching "So Close."

HK has always been able to produce quality movies. Chicks kicking the ass out of guys is just always a great ride. You see these 3 hot girls, who are smooth and graceful. The action is unbelievable. It's what you expect from HK, but it still bothers me that the glass cgi are visible fake. The acting is solid, but after all u don't need Oscar type of acting in these kind of film. I found Shu Qi to be the most sexy and captured the best performance. The others where great too.SPOILERS AHEADThere are only 2 things i didn't like: 1. Shu Qi death 2. Some bad CGI and simple plotEND SPOILERSOtherwise this is a great film to watch. It's sometimes funny, it has some h'wood type of drama, and of course it has HK action. So it's very very very Sexy, Action-packed, and entertaining.8/10 Because of the 2 things i disliked
