Strictly average movie
... View MoreSlow pace in the most part of the movie.
... View MoreHorrible, fascist and poorly acted
... View MoreIt is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
... View MoreThis movie was so engaging and revealed the acting abilities of every one in it. I was impressed to see on of my favorite country entertainers, Dwight Yoakam, do such an excellent job in the role he played. One would have thought he was an actor with previous experience. John Ritter added a new page to his resume. I'm sad that he's no longer with us, but we have that to remind us just how good he was. Most of all, best of all, was Billy Bob Thornton. He's done such great work over time including Legal Colors. But I have to say that his performance in this film was absolutely incredible!
... View MoreThis film has great acting and great dialogue. The characters are believable and really draw you in with their unique personalities. If you are looking for a fun film, watch this on a different night. It has some dark overtones, but it's thought provoking and touches some raw emotions. The thought provoking portion deals with morals, religion, and absolute right and wrong. I don't think this movie has an agenda other than to make you think, which it does very well.I've watched this movie about 3 times over the last 18 years and I've enjoyed it each time. This is one of those movies which can't be missed.

View MoreSling Blade (1996): Dir: Billy Bob Thornton / Cast: Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Dwight Yoakam, John Ritter, Robert Duvall: Title represents periods in the hero's life when he commits wrong when believing he is doing right. Billy Bob Thornton plays a mentally challenged patient at an institute about to be released into society. He committed murder at a young age without fully comprehending reality. He finds employment at a garage where his ability to fix things becomes useful. One day he befriends a boy and learns that his mother lives with an abusive boyfriend. Predictable circumstances follow where viewers are asked the wrong questions in the conclusion. Thornton directs, wrote and delivers a flawless performance as someone whose willingness to please result in fatal consequences. Lucas Black plays the boy whom Thornton befriends. Strong supporting performances from Dwight Yoakam as the abusive boyfriend whose fate is obvious, and John Ritter who is also good as the mother's gay friend who has observed the situation and befriends Thornton whom he gives insight. Robert Duvall is featured as Thornton's father. While a very strong message exists, it doesn't redeem its flaws. Viewers will likely arrive at the ending long before it happens but its delivery is effective. Extremely low budget but observant character study. Score: 8 / 10
... View More"Ahem Ahem" says it all. The finest ever role ever by an actor. Hats off Billy bob thorntan . Just outstanding piece of acting . One of the best acted role ever I guess. The story of a man who suffers with mental illness is depicted in a way that makes the movie out of the league. Storyline is peaceful and the character played by Billy is just amazing work. Just glue your eyes to the way he enacted the role with utter perfection. Its rare that you see such a perfection in a role which is performed with so much realism . Its a billy thorntan's movie all the way. Just watch it and watch how simplicity defines perfection. Its a excellent movie that's all I can say
