If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

First of all this is typical Asian sci-fi script: nothing really makes total sense, but they keep going with it anyway. The science is completely absurd, the acting is bad, the effects are laughable. The idea is that this is a movie that tries to capitalize on the recent success of Asian ghost horror films. You have the ghost, but this time it is analyzed in a scientific way. And when I say scientific I am thinking Van Helsing :) Alas, it is a bad film, you can't sympathize with any of the characters and the "twist" of the end is obvious as a mile long silk thread.Bottom line: it was an effort, I give you that, but it wasn't enough. Without being bad because it is full of clichés (and it is, anyway), it is bad because of a not thought out script. And if you expect to get scared, you will be sadly disappointed.

Silk is a mishmash of science fiction and horror which doesn't work in either field. Some scientists have captured a ghost boy in a room and want to study it. They bring in a super soldier type guy to help them and he proceeds to investigate the history behind the boy's death. The special effects in the movie start out OK, but get progressively worse as the movie nears the end until eventually it gets more and more ridiculous with each death of another character. The capper is when a ghost lady comes out of a bowl of noodle soup. I find it hard to believe the director could think this scene was going to be scary or effective, what was he thinking. The science is only hinted at and is explained away in a cursory fashion, it would have been more interesting to expand on the strange science theme instead of going for typical cheap scares which is what the movie devolves to in the conclusion. The movie has a lot of unnecessary subplots that take away from the atmosphere which can't decide between horror or science fiction or philosophy and ends up being a confused patchwork that doesn't work or jell together. I thought the lead scientist character (he is on a quest to be a ghost) was played too cheesy and it was hard to take him seriously. Although this movie had some creative ideas it had too many drawbacks to rate it higher.

Very original storyline. It's quite nicely written and imagined with sad moments and can scare you quite amazingly. The movie is about a child's ghost and as we go along, we discover this little boy's story. The acting is great and you can see good character development. The story also shows you how the main characters view death I really appreciated Yosuke Eguchi's part The special effect is quite nice actually and good make up...I think it's a great Asian movie with the cooperation of Chinese, Taiwanese and Japanese actors

This movie successfully combines science fiction, drama and horror! The pace of "Silk" is just right! From the start you want to know what is going on! There are certainly enough scares and surprises! There is a subplot involving Chen Chang (Tung) to deepen his character but falls a bit short at the end! The horror elements of the story are subtle but scary when it needs to be! There aren't many characters involved! That is a good thing so you know where to put the focus! There are some matters that are not explained in the story! Like the cube they are using in the movie! It is not necessary for the outcome of the main story, but it would have been nice! The actors are great! Chen Chang really carries the movie! The actor who plays Hashimoto also is wonderful! You can see in his eyes that he is too obsessed with the case! It could be that some scares remind people of other Asian horror movies! Honestly,I don't have a problem with that! They are very effective in this movie! So who cares that it is not totally original! "Silk" is full of suspense and is very entertaining on different fronts! Definitely a must see!!!
