The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

*****SPOILERS********While this can be an enjoyable comedy the historical inaccuracies (on facts that can be checked on Wikipedia by a 10 years old) are so big that they invalidate the whole movie.Uruguay depiction reminds the image of Mexico given by a bad American action movie from early 80's, a tropical dusty place where people wear white hats and white suits, eat coconuts and have monkey pets. There are reports from 1930 WC that say that there were SNOW falls during the Cup so hardly a tropical country. Moreover Uruguay was a much developed and "European" country than Yugoslav itself back then, receiving scores of European immigrants every year (including people from Yugoslavia). The Brazilian team is shown as having all black players which at the time were banned from the national team. If you do "Brazilian national team 1930" in Google you will see a lot of pictures with not one single African-Brazilian player on them. Their jersey was not yellow and no, they did not have a witch-doctor that looks like taken from the "Tintin in Congo" comic book to curse their rivals. Finally, while is entirely possible that Uruguay was, in fact, favored in the semi- final match against Yugoslavia there were in no case mobs with torches in the stands threatening with lynching the Yugoslav players, case they won. By the way, they lost that match by a 5 goals difference and that is not explained by some doubtful play in which the rival might have been favored. Sorry but it is impossible to enjoy a movie which feeds so freely on stupid stereotypes and gross historical inaccuracies. They all make it look cheap and lightly produced.

This is an excellent movie, with great story, great camera, great acting.... One more thing this is second part of th movie Montevideo - God Bless you, When I was looking for this movie on this site I just sawed review from ex Yugoslavia's republic called Bosnia and Herzegovina and in every single thing these people form Bosnia (Islamic part of Bosnia) are writing things that has nothing with movie, they write about politics and religious views an in a matter of a fact this film has nothing to do with it and its true story what happened what you can easily find evidence in a 1 minute. In first part of film in that time 1930 was Yugoslavian Kingdom and Croatian players didn't want to play on this world cup and that is a fact that only Serbian players actually did play on this world cup. Its easy to find which players played for every country for example Yugoslavia beat Brasil 2:1 So stunning movie really non political and very easy for watching, I recommend you to watch it an I'm sure you will like it if you like football (in USA soccer). Rating in my opinion pure 10.

I went to the cinema to watch this movie expecting something similar to the first one, imagine my surprise when I watched perhaps best movie ever. I know that most would disagree, because taste is unique for every person. Acting in this movie is great, actors that no one heard of before "Montevideo, Bog te video" are really amazing. Spanish actress Elena Martinez is mind blowing. I really believe that beginning like this will make Dragan Bjelogrlic not only one of the best Serbian actors, but the best Serbian director. Story itself is fantastic, at the same time this movie will make you laugh and cry, it is a great story about people and how can one event change them completely. Moreover, this is the ultimate story about friendship.Unfortunately, this movie (even though the story is universal) will only people from ex-Yugoslavia understand entirely. Further more, many people will criticize because in the end it says this was the biggest success of Serbia (that was biggest success of Yugoslavia), but such line should not put a shadow over such great movie.

Can't give it a 10, but movie is great…chance to see what was the football when it was played from love to the game, and to see beginnings of interference of managers and money. Of the topic, mr. Petarmatic, at first i thought the same, wtf Serbian best position when Yugoslavia played, then I read about and saw that only Serbian players played, and Serbia has all the right to be proud of its best position in the World cup. Your comments of the Serbian aggression were not pertinent for this site, and are rather one-sided. Couple hundred thousand of Serbian people was expelled from theirs homes and killed in "Serbian aggression" so please edit your comment and keep commenting the movie only.
