not horrible nor great
... View MoreThis story has more twists and turns than a second-rate soap opera.
... View MoreA great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
... View MoreThrough painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
... View MoreEven for SyFy, Savage Planet was a pile of rubbish that is only good for some unintentional laughter from how awful everything is. For starters, it looks incredibly cheap, you can really tell that the gore is fake and the alien bears(or whatever they are) look terrible and have no sense of threat at all. The camera angles are editing are also very choppy. Again the music is sluggishly paced and generic, not doing anything to add to any atmosphere. The script is cheesy and stilted, in particular "you still owe me a dinner" completely ruins the one scene that could have evoked poignancy, while the story, not helped by the unoriginal and ridiculous concept, is dully paced and predictably told with no atmosphere, no suspense and no real sense of horror. In fact, very little interesting or of note happens. The attack scenes are far too brief, and the cheap production values really hurt them as well. The characters are stereotypical and none of them have any likability. while the acting consists of bored looking actors who can't do anything with what they're given and don't want to be there. What was Sean Patrick Flanery doing here, was he short of cash or something? Overall, a terrible movie that makes you question what the point of it was. 1/10 Bethany Cox
... View MoreThe only reason I watched this film to completion was to say I finished it. They go to this distant planet and what is the monster? Bears. Could they not come up with something scarier than bears? Also the plot was fairly difficult to follow. And really bad CGI. In the end with the guy getting his head chopped off, you could see the plastic hoses squirting the "blood" out. When the bear swiped the chunk out of the attorney, there was this CGI hole.. with no blood. Oh brother. This is one reason I never stay up to watch SCI FI channel anymore. I record it on my DVR and watch it later. Now this is a B movie with a uppercase B. Oh the acting was horrible too.
... View MoreCalling this abomination bad doesn't do it justice. It's beyond bad, it's downright Ed Wood. Action scenes which look like they were filmed by some kid with a handycam in his back yard. Horrible junky props. Special effects which are so incredibly awful you laugh out loud at them.I gave it a two, and it only scored that high because they at least managed to find a good-looking cast, and the first one to die wasn't who I expected. If (like me) you don't mind watching the occasional garbage movie just to see how bad things can get, this is worth a view. Everybody else should run away.
... View MoreWARNING: there kind of, maybe, in a small way, perhaps, might be spoilers in this review. (unless, of course you have ever watched ANY movie on the Sci-Fi channel)If you happen to be a Sci-Fi Channel executive or one of the millions who have made these zero budget, gore fest/ torture porn chunks of tripe, passing off as entertainment, popular, (not to mention those who have created these "films".) SHAME ON YOU!I for one have watched my last Sci-Fi channel movie! This last one especially angered me to no end and wasted the talents of several good actors including Sean Patrick Flannery. What REALLY ticks me off is the Sci-Fi channel saves the good programming for the daytime which most of us miss because of work. This is where they do marathon showings of the "good" stuff: the new Dr.Who, Outer Limits,Tru Calling, Wolf Lake, Jake 2.0, etc...But the night is reserved for tripe like these stupid faux "Sci-Fi" travesties, wrestling (!!!) and scads and scads of boring reality programming. These movies are all the same; they start out with a promising plot and then, after 10 minutes, throw it completely away in favor of decapitations, blood-lettings, and very bad SPFX.In almost each of these movies most of the action occurs in forests or deserts, is hideously edited and filmed and no one survives except maybe two or three-usually the ones with the strongest back story. Please join me and STOP watching these movies! If you want to really see a good Sci-Fi thriller check out CLOVERFIELD. It doesn't just treat death like a voyeuristic kick but actually has living, breathing characters who, when they die, other characters actually grieve for. It also has a smart script, a little humor, a realistic love story and incredible SPFX.Or look into Sci-Fi channel series like Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Painkiller Jane and Special Unit 2 when (and if) the Sci-Fi channel deems to bring them back or show in re-runs...
