U.S Marshal Mike Donovan has dark memories of the death of his first love. He keeps peace between the Americans and the natives who had temporarily adopted and taken care of him. One of the trippiest and strangest westerns since 'El Topo', but besides visual exploration, don't expect too much coherence in story telling. The film goes deeper and deeper into the spiritual territories, but at the end leaves the viewer dissatisfied as by the end all the visual treats are just an hollow experiments and nothing more. The computer generated meditation and hallucination scenes are there just to be there for visual purpose. Although empty and somewhat confusing, they don't feel like some foreign bodies thrown in as these scenes beautifully melt in with the overall flow of the movie. The cinematography sometimes feel restless with its constant camera pans and rotations. We are never allowed to rest our eyes on steady shot. But the restless camera is supported with good editing so it doesn't start to distract too much.Unconventional western with unconventional hero and villain with unconventional motives. Not as deep and spiritual as it aspires to be, but nonetheless entertaining to watch mostly thanks to its great cast and lively cinematography. The film that is definitely meant for the big screen to get the full enjoyment out if it.

I'm one of those who watched Blueberry awaiting a comic book adaptation and, needless to say, wasn't impressed. Maybe the title itself was misleading, since i see there was a release called Renegade. That one i'd surely avoid, which, in turn, would have spared me the disappointment.Anyhow, if you're not familiar with the comic book, there's a whole level of discussion made obsolete. We're left with some nice visuals, yet they get swiftly forgotten by poor CGI which should represent psychedelic visions. Since Blueberry has been released in 2004, i.e. several years after Matrix and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon set new standards for special effects, there is no excuse for these visual blurbs.

Back in 2004 when Blueberry released, i didn't pay attention. Today i'm very glad that i didn't watch the movie till i had my dmt experience.I'm not comfortable about talking people's choices so i won't tell anything special about experience, every human being have chance to choose which experience to live. After the stunning and amazing experience we got together, all blown up, started to talk about if there is a computer or person or cgi team that could made or even design the same visions we encountered during the experience. We all know Enter The Void, it begins with the main character's dmt trip. it's visuals was OK but no where near our experience. At last we decided that Alex Grey's paintings are the closest possible cartoon copies of the visuals of the trip, until one of us mentions Blueberry. Unfortunately nobody watched it except him.I like Vincent Cassel. Love Juliette Lewis. And I, well... got used to Michael Madsen. Michael Madsen is Michael Madsen in Blueberry once again. Exact same gestures, mimics, talking style and movements. He is like Highlander of mafia guys. There can be only Madsen.Anyway Bluberry has beautiful scenes and smartly crafted motives. It's about greedy little human f***ks and the humans who had the influence of where really we are and respect the place. Just because of those points you can watch Blueberry and enjoy it.And finally, when they reach the gold, the real story begins. Dmt experience is the experience you have to had to enjoy last thirty minutes of this film. I am sure that everybody who took part of making the last thirty minute experienced dmt. the special effects of the trip are most accurate depiction of what you experienced out there but unfortunately they are near no where the actual "thing". While i was watching it, i smiled like i am watching an old private video of mine. So even you won't want to have an experience of dmt just know that there is a meaning and a strong reality about those parts of the Blueberry and judge by knowing it.If i don't experienced something like that i am pretty sure i would give Blueberry 5/10 points. But this movie is a little different with it's attitude, editing. it's absorbing. Like Yuni said in the movie, plants have ability to show you who you are and where are we. Blueberry is a homage to that sentence. One last thing. I think Michael Madsen supposed to be villain of this film. Not even close!!! Something 7500 voters misunderstood about this movie.

Fans and readers of the Moebius/Giraud/Charlier comic book graphic novels will know that it does indeed have some surrealistic tendencies here and there (especially in "La mine de l'allemand perdu" 1971, which is probably the story where this movie get most inspiration from and "Angel Face"). However I can honestly say that pretty much the only thing that this movie has in common with the comics is the names of some of the characters. This movie is first and foremost a visual trip more related to "2001" or "Altered States" than any western you have ever seen. This is not necessarily a bad thing and definitely a different take on the western genre, but I do hope that there maybe will be a more "literary" adaption for either screen or TV. Story is pretty simple but told with quick cuts, constantly moving panning shots or some seriously weird CGI - In other words the camera is never still, which might make the story hard to follow for some. Still this IS a fascinating movie and the panning long shots are truly beautiful. Depending on ones tolerances for more or less mind altering substances this movie could be even better or awful in the extreme :-). I saw it rather sober, so 8 is a fair judgment in my opinion.
