The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Gifted director Nelson McCormick has simply done an inspired job of bringing J.S. Cordone's brilliant screenplay to the screen. The shocks and thrills come fast and furiously from the very opening scene to the shattering climax. However, it is the sensitively observed portrait of a traumatized young girl going through a profound life transition that makes this motion picture so much more than a horror film. The film has its share of blood and gore but it never diminishes the development of the central character. A superb performance by Brittany Snow brings depth and humanity to her role of Donna Keppel and it is a deeply moving portrayal. Certainly a unique genre film as it departs from the expected and will surprise audiences in many ways.

I saw this movie by myself and though my friends had said it want scary and was boring, I however thought the movie was good! The teacher DEFINITELY freaked me out every tine he was gonna kill somebody. He was very creepy and, dare I say, creepy and crazy! Donna and everyone else were innocent victims in the whole ordeal and I was actually shocked every time he killed someone. I was especially shocked when he killed the boys but I understand, in the teachers twisted mind, that ANYONE in the way between him and Donna would have to go. I can't believe people said that some people said the movie was not scary because I was almost scared when, at the beginning of the movie, when Donna remembers finding her ENTIRE family dead because of the teacher, I was almost scared and creeped out SOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad!! When one of the detectives is detectives about Donna's case with her past teacher and her family, it's scary HOW infatuated he was with Donna and what lengths he would go to to be with her!! You would think that he would have somewhat of a mind to understand what a restraining order is and how to live by the rules but NO!!! Keeps going, gets locked behind bars, sent away to the looney bin; hopefully that would say something like: "hey, I might be crazy but I can fix it if I work at it." but, he doesn't and gets the punishment he deserves. Anyway, the movie was good, scary, shocking, and having me wonder if my teachers in high school ever had a crush or infatuation with me..........

Another crappy remake/reworking of an '80s horror movie. It's not like the original Prom Night is sacred or anything and it certainly could be improved upon. It was, for the most part, a routine slasher (with decidedly little gore). Yet this piece of crap remake somehow manages to be ten times worse and less original than that movie. Basically it's just another boring 21st century retread of a subgenre that had reached its peak long before this came out. There's the obligatory music video gloss and more pretty young people than you would ever want to see in one place at a time. There isn't a single scare to be had and it's all so tired and predictable, it's pathetic. Sadly, there's also some slumming going on from Ming-Na Wen and Idris Elba. Gotta pay the bills, I guess. My score is low but generous. Avoid this trash.

Donna Keppell (Brittany Snow) comes home one night, and witnesses her parents being murdered by a psychopath obsessed with Donna named Richard Fenton (Johnathon Schaech) The killer is locked up, and Donna gets over it, thanks to the help of her friends. Prom Night is supposed to be the night Donna will never forget. Sadly for Donna, Richard Fenton escapes, and begins to terrorize Donna & her friends on Prom Night. I love slasher's. I'm not that persnickety about them at all, but let's face it. The original was OK at best, but it was at least tolerable. This isn't really a remake. I did admire that it does its own thing, but it couldn't be any more mundane if it tried. It has a slick set-up. The opening is quite riveting, and I thought I might be in for a pleasant surprise. The obsession storyline was basic and effective. There was nothing flashy about it, and that was fine with me. Sadly, I couldn't turn out to be more wrong about being pleasantly surprised. This lacks suspense, creativity, scares, or thrills of any kind. It throws in everything I hate about slasher movies these days with plot holes that baffled me. Why are all of the cops such bumbling idiots? How did it take them that long to think that maybe the killer would attempt to disguise himself? The characters, except for Brittany Snow are all disposable, and I didn't give a damn about any of them. They are so vague and thinly written, it's impossible to care about their fates. They're so interchangeable it's not even funny. Brittany Snow is the movie's lone saving grace. Her performance is so strong that it makes you wonder what she's doing in this film in the first place. She's beautiful, convincing, sympathetic, and more importantly, likable. I did care about what was going to happen to her, and I give all the credit to Snow. Good stuff, woman! Why didn't Rob Zombie cast her as Laurie Strode in Halloween? She would've been ideal! Scott Porter has to be one of the blandest jocks I've ever seen in my life. This kid couldn't conjure up a personality if his life depended on it. He had no chemistry with Snow, either. Idris Elba is fine as the detective, but did they have to write his character to be that stupid? Schaech is decent as the killer, but we don't know why he's so obsessed. Kellan Lutz has an insignificant role for the women that go nuts over him. Linden Ashby plays Snow's uncle. That's noteworthy for me, because he's Johnny, freaking Cage! How cool would it be to have Ashby for an uncle? The blood is drier than a popcorn fart. Not only are some of the deaths pointless, but bloodless as well. We get an average slit throat, stabbings, and that's about it. This should also be nominated for having one of the most anti-climatic endings I've ever seen. Final Thoughts: The IMDb rating is spot on, if you like your horror movies, teeny bopperish, with no imagination what so ever, this one's for you. Brittany Snow deserved better than this crap. I'd revisit my prom with Brittany Snow any day!3.7/10
