An exhilarating documentary film that celebrates the unsung hero of aviation - the local airport - by tracing the life, history, and struggles of an airport icon: Southern California's Van Nuys Airport. Featuring thrilling aerial photography and a sweeping original score, the film dispels common misconceptions and opposes criticism of General Aviation airports.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

There is a documentary out there about the romance and thrill of flying, but this one isn't it.I give it three points for the cinematography. The steady-cam from the camera's airplane was outstanding as it captured the other planes in flight. But really, it's just an infomercial for Van Nuys Airport. Think about it. You're paying money and taking your time to watch a long infomercial. Van Nuys = suburb of Los Angeles. Do you really care?I'm much more interested in the romance and thrill of flying, and much less interested in Van Nuys Airport.

I just saw this documentary on our local PBS and it was beautifully crafted! Congratulations to all involved in making this moving piece of flying history. I've always wanted to earn my pilot's license but have not had the chance. At least I can dream through this well written and beautifully shot story. I am always interested in our history and especially in the history and struggles of aviation. I was and am especially interested in the reasons behind the "extinction" of our small airports. I had no idea how we lose one a week to development. Too bad this is called "progress". Thank you Terwilliger Productions and everyone involved. I wish all of you the best in future documentary projects and keep up your excellent work.

What a great little film. It's a wonderful, touching look at the inner workings of the aviation community as represented by the Van Nuys airport. Lovely air-to-air work, with some of the best footage I've seen, good choices with light and texture, even in the interviews. And then there's the scoring. If there was ever a film that drives home the marriage of image and music, this is the one. Soaring, majestic crescendos under footage of a Pitts Special just cannot be beat. Mr. Wang, you nailed it.A wonderful labour of love, and a great little package. I can't wait to see what Mr. Terwilliger comes up with next.

I just watched this film in HD at home today. There is NO better way to watch this film. The opening sequence showing the juxtaposition of historical vs current footage actually brought tears to my eyes. One Six Right brought the same emotions to me as when I flew myself to the Wright Brothers Memorial in North Carolina. The beauty and passion so many people feel about aviation is perfectly exemplified throughout the film. More than a documentary, 16 Right tells the story of general aviation in America today. There are protagonists (Van Nuys Airport), antagonists (Mayor Daley and his wife), and tragic heroes (Meigs Field in Chicago). All of that, and one thing I didn't notice right away... in a community where jargon is the modus operandi, I never heard ANY jargon. If you have never flown an airplane, visited an airport, or even watched AIRPLANE! you can still enjoy this film. 10 out of 10 for story, color, sound, and lots and lots of airplanes.
