It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

Listen, everyone knows this movie is heartbreaking. Not only is it heartbreaking but it's a FANTASTIC film. Which makes it even more heartbreaking. Dorothy MacGuire and Tommy Kirk stand out in this film. Dorothy has subtle acting moments that lend themselves to treasured gems (her moment of realization KILLS me every time). Tommy Kirk is a KNOCK OUT in this movie. His performance during THAT scene is what brings the audience to tears. Yeah, shooting your own dog is sad, and man do I love that dang dog, but Tommy's performance enraptures the audience and brings down the house. As sad it is, I can't help but recommend this title. A great classic.

So lets just jump right into this review. Story: The Story in the Old Yeller film is surprisingly Entertaining I expected this film to be boring but it is also Charming and Just one note if you can't handle watching animals die this film is not for you. Characters: So lets start off at the main character witch is travis he's a good main character and has a lot of character Development. then there's Old Yeller who is a pretty good character also. the only character that may be considered annoying is Arliss he's just annoying when he lies and whines and throws rocks at travis his Brother. Conclusion: so in conclusion this is a sad and entertaining film if you enjoy another film called the Shaggy Dog you will enjoy this. Personal Score 7/10Critic Score: Story: 7/10 Characters 7/10 Overall Critic Score 7/10

As sad and sappy as this movie is I LOVE IT! This movie will bring you tears if you have a heart. It's a good solid down to earth story that many people can identify with - maybe that's why it is a favorite classic among many people. The movie/book Old Yeller reminds me of another good movie/book entitled "Where the Red Fern Grows" which is along similar lines as Old Yeller - A sad story of a boy and his dog(s).Old Yeller is definitely worth watching even if you are not a fan of Disney films. And a good one to watch with your kids.9/10

Before I saw Old Yeller, I gave that distinction to the equally wonderful Lassie Come Home. After seeing Old Yeller, I think I have found the ultimate dog movie. Old Yeller for me does for dogs like The Three Lives of Thomasina does for cats and The Red Shoes does for dancing. In short, this film is a classic. It has beautiful cinematography and scenery. It has a beautiful story, and a truly affecting scene that anybody who's seen the movie will know what I'm talking about. It has a wonderfully-trained and adorable dog. It has some nice writing, and a pleasant score, as well as some fine direction and an excellent turn from Dorothy McGuire. I personally liked Kevin Cocoran and Tommy Kirk here, and much preferred them here than I did in Swiss Family Robinson. I didn't mind them then either, but they are more appealing and their characters are more likable in Old Yeller. In conclusion, a classic, moving, sweet and above all beautiful. Not to be missed! 10/10 Bethany Cox
