It's easy to see why Mexican wrestling movies aren't popular any more, they haven't made a good one since the 1970s. LUCHA A MUERTE is slow-paced and absolutely dull. There are a few decent battles in the wrestling ring, and a few women who look great in spandex. But otherwise, the movie is absolutely uninteresting. The few out-of-the-ring fights are filmed horribly, at a distance. Mascara Sagrada does a couple decent karate kicks when he finally takes on some criminals, but all the action scenes are obviously rushed. LUCHA A MUERTE might be worthwhile if somebody trimmed it down to 30 minutes or less and added subtitles, but taken as a feature-length adventure movie, it misses the mark. LUCHA A MUERTE is worthwhile only for the most die-hard fans of this type of film, or the long, drawn-out wrestling wring action, which does have some impressive moves.
