I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
... View MoreI am only giving this movie a 1 for the great cast, though I can't imagine what any of them were thinking. This movie was horrible
... View MoreThis is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
... View MoreThe movie is made so realistic it has a lot of that WoW feeling at the right moments and never tooo over the top. the suspense is done so well and the emotion is felt. Very well put together with the music and all.
... View MoreNot sure feels like Mani has run out of good ideas. The movie mostly feels like rip of from Friends with Benefits. The screenplay and cinematography are good in parts but never keeps you engrossed like it used to in a typical Maniratnam movie. Maniratnam always comes up with love story angle. Why cant the director think of something beyond Bollywood with advent of so much graphics in the digital movie production. He should create something that we will remember for the next 25 years. The ARR magic too is gone these days. After few months of watching this movie I don't even recollect any songs. Producers should real think before investing on these Oscar genius.
... View MoreFirst of all i walked into this show looking for something that is as at least refined as Alaypayuthey or Monua Ragam or Minnale but walked out disappointed. The whole movie feels like a inferior rehash of Alaypayuthey just drags on without much story and clearly i do not understand whats the message of the movie. It sounds so 1980s to make a movie based on such a theme that feels out of place in current times. Firstly the problems with the theme of the story is evident - It doesn't resonate with anyone out there as much as any of Mani's past movies.Making something out of conventions form the year 2000 , a different time period and a different generation may not work now.The only saving grace is AR Rahman's music which too somewhat sounds dated as if he made the songs in the early 2000s and just forgot about them till someone asked for them. But being the maestro he is anything from the master even if outdated, will be loads better than other musicians. The lead actors were clearly unsuitable for the movie for performances required and look , sound and behave like characters from the year 2000 era into 2015 through a time machine. The female characters in Mani's movies were always strong but Nithya menon is a bad choice this time round. Dulqueer is nowhere near the level of Maniratnam's favorite heroes , Madhavan or Arvind Swamy.Hope Maniratnam gets on track and starts to make some good movies again!
... View MoreO Kadhal Kanmani - This is how an ace director returns back to form and hit backs at his critics to show that he is here to stay. So here again he is back with a lovely, fresh, contemporary tale on present day love and relationships set in a beautiful backdrop. It is amazing to realize that how a single filmmaker can study and make a movie for every generation he was in. Cast wise, super cute acting by the limited yet talented cast with some snappy humorous dialogues. Once again Mani Ratnam, the master he is, shows more importance to the female lead and has made Nithya Menon portray a stronger character which in some ways looks many steps above the male lead - something which is very rare in present day cinema. Dulquer keeps up with the practical role of a jolly good modern day youth and succeeds in making heads turn with his acting. PrakashRaj puts in all his seasoned acting experience and it was indeed a joy to see him doing a loving elderly role, away from all the typical roles that he usually plays. The biggest surprise however was Leela Samson - who shows no signs of fear and flaws for a person facing a movie camera for the first time. Together, this older couple forms the crux of the movie and I wish this sweet loving pair will remain in people's minds for a long time. As someone already remarked, it is kind of a contest between A.R.Rahman and P.C.Sreeram as the movie starts unfolding. Except 2 songs, all the others were utilized as a background track which made it way cooler and memorable than expected. Special mention to a soundtrack which was a fusion of Carnatic song and modern hip-hop score - which I guess must have been Mani's idea of combining both the worlds. Taking a bow to P.C.Sreeram sir & Thalaivar A.R.Rahman for breaking their limits every time to give a rich feel and goosebumps with their incredible effort. In a nutshell, OK Kanmani is a beautiful, poetic tale through which Mani Ratnam has carved his niche and shown his class again. I just wish that they had trimmed the length of a few scenes. Yet, he has successfully taught a lesson to present day movie makers on how a romantic modern day movie should be weaved with his trademark screenplay and visuals. And finally, he is back in the game big time! Hope his magic continues in his further movies in other genres as well!
... View MoreI don't normally write reviews. I like watching movies and rating them, but looking at the downpour of adulation, I got disgusted enough to write this. Mani Ratnam is one overrated director. And this movie is absolutely the bottom of the barrel. Good-looking people fall in love, act like whiny school kids, are mostly annoying stupid characters with no substance whatsoever, and have no guts to act out what they think is right. That's the movie for you. Every character is plastic, every situation is OTT, every face that comes on screen is full of it. You just want to throw up all over the screen.Don't watch this piece of trash. And you, Mani Ratnam, need to retire and make music videos or something.
