Masterful Movie
... View MoreBlending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
... View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
... View MoreIt is encouraging that the film ends so strongly.Otherwise, it wouldn't have been a particularly memorable film
... View MoreI know I sometimes are a little giving with the rating, sometimes I give a little more then what some movies might deserve, yet I felt that, that wasn't the case with this movie, Numb is a special movie, from looking at the DVD, or by some of the posters you don't really get what it really is, Numb is special, special! Storyline 10/10: The story is about a man named Hudson, who has depersonalization disorder, look that up if you want to know something about it, the story is mostly about his disorder and how he live with it, and how some of it changes when he meets a woman (Sara) who in some way changes him somewhat through the story, I don't really want to tell you much of the story, believe it the story is just that good, see it for yourself, don't read stuff when wanting to see this movie!, it is that good! Actors: 10/10: I liked just about everyone in this movie, I have always been a fan of Matthew Perry, plus Lynn Collins played really nice as well, I must however say I am not really a fan of Kevin Pollak, he isn't that bad but I am not that big a fan, also what the heck happened to this eyebrows, never seen that on him before, freaked me a little out, except for that the actors were nice enough, I liked them all and they played as real as real can get in a movie, I would see the movie just for the actors actually! Soundtrack: 10/10: It is mostly standard fare, Yeah I said that standard fare, yet some nice tunes are thrown in and they really capture the whole, and the standard tracks that are thrown in fits with the movie just perfectly, especially when they had to convey some feeling to you, which it did all through the movie, I bought the soundtrack, yeah I liked it that much, so I would recommend listening to some of the tracks in the movie they are great! Special Effects N/A: I know there are some of course yet the movie doesn't really emphasize on it so I have not much to say about effects since mostly there weren't any special effects, more camera angels and such not really anything else, but remember this is not an action, adventure or SCI-FI this is a drama! Overall 10/10: As I said before I am usually not this giving with my score not really, but this movie deserve the score I gave it, this movie really is something huge, I felt with the character through the whole movie and that my friend is really something special, that my friend doesn't happen that often, so I would say buy it and keep it, and watch it once a year or something, just for good fun!
... View MoreSince the 'friends' era (someone was bound to bring it up), Perry's films have always shared the typical romance/comedy element, although I must nuance by saying the emphasis tended to differ, but now it seems that Matt has chosen a different path, trying to prove himself as a serious actor in drama's, although he hasn't fully abjured comedy (not that he should, as long as it remains tasteful). The recent 'The Ron Clark Story' proved to be a big hit in the rose and 'Numb' was the next logical step, providing him with a more challenging and diverse role even namely a screenwriter having to deal with a peculiar form of depression; 'depersonalization'.Judging the authenticity of his performance is very hard, seeing that I, like most people, have never heard of the condition in question. I do believe most reviews coming from people suffering from it or having suffered from it in the past were predominantly positive. Perry's natural charm and his impression of being clumsy have to be suppressed, and having dealt with depression in real life the actor can dig into his own experience to come up with a real life character, and he does so with furore, wisely underplaying and steering away from his typical comedy style, meanwhile the film still has a lot of off beat comedy moments to lighten the material at hand a bit, certainly a welcome comical relief. The low-key tone of the film might make it difficult for some people to access, but I would still recommend it to most people.7.7/10
... View MoreThis movie is very well written, the drama is crafted intelligently and the humor is good. The only problem I found with the film is the decision to mix the humor with a somewhat serious portrayal of the hero's condition - the way it is shown, the viewer does not know whether to identify with the hero and feel sorry for him or to just laugh from (the good) comic situations he runs into. This made me feel a bit guilty for laughing which is quite strange for a film which should be comic. Other then that, everything in the film and especially the acting is quite professional and all in all the film is very enjoyable. I give it a 10 out of 10 because it is so much better than most other comedies which are shown currently in theaters but it would probably get much less attention which would be a pity.
... View MoreI recently viewed, "Numb" at the Palm Springs Film Festival. It was by far the best film there. Harris Goldberg's script and direction are seamless in this film. The story was laid out on film beautifully. Numb is extremely interesting and funny. If you like, Garden State, you will love this film. I was in Palm Springs representing another film in the film festival. (I'm a Composer) I never knew that Matthew Perry was that good of an actor. I always thought he was funny in friends, clever reaction more than serious acting. Well in "Numb" he really shows his range. Matthew Perry was spectacular in his role as Hudson the mentally de- personalized professional script writer. His love interest, I hate to say I don't recall her name, but she sucked up the screen and I fell in love with her instantly. When you work in this business you see a bunch of sub par films. So, when you see a film like, "Numb," your faith in film making is restored. Thank you Harris Goldberg and cast.
