"No One Killed Jessica" is a film based on a famous murder that occurred years ago in Delhi. The character of Meera in the film is a personification of the reporters who went on the warpath when the punk who murdered her was acquitted--even though there was a mountain of evidence against him. How did he get acquitted? In India, there's a long tradition of corruption and folks who are rich and important have been able to literally get away with murder. And, the punk's family is a politician...exactly the sort to remain unpunished. But Meera is determined to make this case huge as is Jessica's sister....to force action and force people to be accountable. The film chronicles the case and is also about the police cover-up and the press insisting that truth prevail.Non-Indians watching this film might be very surprised by the story and how widespread corruption has been in India. However, as I've seen a couple hundred Indian films, I see that this is actually one of the most common recurring themes in their films--that the police cannot be trusted and the government is run by kleptocrats. So, reporters refusing to let such an injustice get swept under the rugs IS unusual and I can only assume they risked much to expose this conspiracy. I also assume that some pressure must have been exerted on the studio that made this film...yet they made it anyway. This is a very well made film and I am glad I watched it. I had a couple minor quibbles: the occasional use of the shaky cam as well as some unnecessary musical interludes which are common in Indian films but which didn't really fit the story. But these didn't negatively impact the film and overall it's extremely well made, compelling and worth seeing.

I of-course went for this film only to witness the power-house performances by two of my favorite divas Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan, prepared to be blown away, that I was most certainly, plus it was a treat for me and my friends watching Rani play a journalist as we all were Mass Media students. But I was surprised by what this film had to offer. It was equally poignant, thrilling and emotional, while in some parts it was extremely hilarious, shocking and moving, thus being a perfect entertainer and yet something more than just a one time watch, something which was equally thought provoking and inspiring.Post the watch I did a thorough research on the events shown in the film and I was pleased to learn that the film had done proper justice to the actual events something which many directors fail to master when it comes to 'based on true story' films, but then I don't expect anything less from Director Raj Kumar Gupta. The little symbolical hints like when Sabrina (Vidya) is passing a truck while in a cab, which has this road sign saying 'Men at Work' (thus referring to the kind of work Men are upto in covering up the actual events)and a few more are just brilliant and the music though unconventional is apt for the mood set by the film. The film isn't that technically sound and the court scenes towards the end though a bit of a let down but overall it is certainly a good film. But I really didn't understand the need for Gaalis!I also happened to get the film on DVD for my sister and she also fell in love with the film, and she like me also thinks that this film on IMDb is most certainly under-rated! No One Killed Jessica is not just another cheap cashing on a true event film, its engaging, moving and a thematically balanced film and though commercial it is perhaps equally a Parallel/Art film which now is one of my absolute contemporary favorites for all the right reasons.

I loved this flick so much and i think this must be the best movie of the year so far.Direction here was excellent and so was the story and screenplay.I liked how this movie dealt with the Jessica Lal murder case it seemed very realistic. And i was shocked that Manu Sharma for years was not arrested because of his power and so many lied on his behalf by this it does showcases the fact that many famous people can get away with their crimes with their power and i was glad that in the end he was punished. The Dilli song was very cool. The acting was very good here to.Vidya has given a superb performance and she totally dominates the first half.Rani dominates the second half and she also steals the show with a fantastic performance in a fantastic role. This movie in my opinion was truly was great and it deserves a watch

Certainly not the typical Bollywood film, it does not have people suddenly reaching a completely different place with great scenic beauty just to sing and dance . Also, it unlike most other films it tried to show reality and as compared to other Hindi films it also had many abuses in it, even for an adult movie. But these abuses actually work, they make the movie more realistic which was important as it is based on reality. This is why the movie really works because it succeeds in the different things it tries to do....This movie will leave an impact on you and make you think about this big bad world. You are so f#cked up after knowing the reason for which Jessica was killed and even more so after you see what is happening with Jessica's sister. You just want to kill that bloody person who killed Jessica . And mind you the movie stays pretty true to the facts most of the time although maybe the role of media persons was a bit too much. This is one movie where women are not shown as weaklings who have faint with one push lol. This movies shows how a woman really is nowadays .Now to the performances, which I think are the USP of the film. Vidya Balan is tremendous, She is growing as actor with ever movie. She acts brilliantly. Then there is Rani Mukherjee, this is her comeback and man what a comeback, superb, really superb acting. Really looks like a real media person. Not just these two every one has given wonderful performances .This is a movie, where the villain is not a bulky man with a hoarse voice, but the corruption that lingers in our world......Go watch this brilliant movie.
