At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review

MYSTIC BLADE is a very low budget martial arts flick from Thailand, featuring as its leads a bunch of actors who were stunt men or bit players in the likes of ONG BAK and WARRIOR KING. And yet, despite the lo-fi feel, I found myself enjoying it, at least to a degree. Sure, the non-action bits require fast-forwarding because they're really predictable and not really worth bothering with, but the action does deliver at times. The film is deeply unoriginal and seems to be a cross between ONG BAK and RAMBO in terms of stylistics, with a little Lone Wolf & Cub influence added to the mix. The protagonist is deeply uncharismatic and the most interesting performers are those in support, like GAME OF THRONES actor Conan Stevens and the giant Thai guy. However, the frequent action scenes, particularly in the second half, are quite tolerable, only occasionally spoilt by some silly wire work. Otherwise these actors do have good moves and the violence is quite satisfying.

this movie didn't have a massive budget so understand that from the start, but the talent behind it in David Ismalone (you'd know from Ong Bak) the great Tim Man martial arts legend and young up and coming martial arts actor and renowned stuntman Don Ferguson whose film it is.Has a good story for a martial arts movie, everyone who worked on this film gave their blood sweat and tears and worked their guts out.For everyone who knocks it let's see your completed film! this stands above so many martial arts films for fight scenes and story wise been watching martial arts movies since I was 5 years old and this is a top notch film worth a look.Great stuff can't wait to see more of your films.

Briefly about the plot: After several crucial missions, a Lone assassination warrior named Sam, abandons his ways of assassination from his former killer commando group, choosing a simple, ordinary, but exotic life in Thailand, another life style incorporating Buddhism in peace, getting married with a Thai woman and raising a child together in the Northern jungles of Thailand. But soon, it took an abrupt end, as Sam's former assassin partner tracked him and murdered his wife in front of his wife. With nothing left but his innocent son, Sam is taking up the ultimate path for revenge redemption, taking his kid alongside him in the most brutal sceneries in his quest for vengeance. For an ordinary person, this movie would obviously seem to be crap. However, in the heart of Martial Arts practitioner or fan, who sees certain aspects from a different view, despite the simplistic cliché plot, I think that this movie is worth seeing, as one of Canada's rising stuntman, supporting actors in several International and Asian Martial Arts Action movies and leading personalities of Thailand's Asia Pacific Taekwondo Organization, displays a full array of exciting Martial Arts actions in his starring role. Some short remarks, some story-telling animation flicks have obviously replaced some cost-consuming acting sceneries. Not that it is something bad. It was just a fact, from a production standpoint for a new and first time director. It can only get better for his next project....A big shout out to Master Don, (a former TKD teacher of mine, when I attended TKD classes in International School)

"Before my showdown with Ken I must leave Sherol (my baby son) with one of the few people I trust, Reyosan, he is a sword maker and he lives the old ways of the samurai".Really? Think that is a good idea?"I walked and I walked 'til I could walk no more."Correction "I traveled for many days 'til I could walk no more."The spots of animation were kind of a nice touch. He develops a conscience after being a, stipulated, don't just rough people up and warn them, kill them (leave no one alive) bloodthirsty mercenary? Really? Story line and monologue needed a lot more for the movie to carry its weight. The action scenes were okay but not enough to remedy the overall production. Killing off his wife seemed totally contrived. Him carrying around a baby was just too weird.Interesting film title but the movie simply does not live up to it.
