The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Really, Mark's review, (the highest rated one about this movie) is more entertaining than Megashark vs. Giant Octopus. Not like that is difficult, however cheers Mark! Great satirical 10 star review. Normally I can't stand them because people can't pull off satire but you nailed it! Anyway.....On to my review.I have to give some credit to the cast and crew for basically pulling an Ed Wood and just using whatever toys their kids had lying around as "Special Effects". The acting was actually not too bad considering the script they had to work with. I personally think that Debbie Gibson did quite well, however any career she planned in the film industry was destroyed by her accepting this role.I wish I could say that this movie is one of those "It's so bad it's good" but it just isn't. I think with the FXGuru app on my phone and a bunch of friends could remake this movie and make it look more realistic. In general, even if you are a huge fan of B movies like I am, this movie is not deserving of being called a B: film. It is almost like the director and writer believed that they were making a AAA film on a shoestring budget, and just failed all around. To use the old trope, they "jumped the shark" the moment the shark jumped into the air to grab the airplane (not really a spoiler since it's in the trailer and happens within the first 10 minutes...) If you enjoy watching the same 4 second clip of a shark swimming over and over again (and sometimes even FLIPPED!!! or REVERSED!!! omg!) than you'll enjoy the 4 min of screen time the monsters get.Hard to give this a 3, but I really think that Gibson showed that she had acting potential, so I am giving it an extra point due to her performance. And notice, I said "she had potential", because seriously, this movie killed any chance of her being taken seriously in the industry. And that's kind of sad because she actually showed some talent.2.5 but bumped up to a 3 for Debbie Gibson seeming to be the only one involved in this project to give a crap about it.

In the Arctic, a giant prehistoric shark and a giant prehistoric octopus thaw out. This means danger for everyone. The "Mega Shark" and the "Giant Octopus" munch on famous bridges and bite airplanes in the nose. To solve the problem, marine enthusiast Deborah "Debbie" Gibson (as Emma MacNeil) wants to provoke a "bloodbath" battle between the shark and octopus – like the "Thrilla in Manila," she explains. This refers to a 1975 boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. The best special effect is the "shaky camera" accompanied by actors directed to move like their submarine is shaking – they look like they're playing foosball... Different color lights enhance the photography, with the green lights being most effective. Writer-director Jack Perez (incognito as Ace Hannah) gets good performances from the extras and bit players. Former "Falcon Crest" hunk Lorenzo Lamas (as Allan Baxter) seems angry with his role. Music by Chris Ridenhour and soundtrack effects help, but it's all for naught. The pace is dull and unexciting. The titular monsters are not frightening and their big fight is a dud.** Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus (5/26/09) Jack Perez ~ Debbie Gibson, Vic Chao, Lorenzo Lamas, Sean Lawlor

This movie was a 5. I gave it a ridiculous 10 to offset someone's ridiculous 1.I can't imagine what sort of person watches a movie like this and gives it a "1" plus writes a review saying how bad it is. Were they expecting Shawshank? This movie is for a certain type of sci-fi nerd (such as myself) to pass a little time and have some fun in the process. I think if you are the B-movie sci-fi nerd type you realize this is far from the worst thing ever made and you will enjoy while others sling mud at it and criticize it like it was made to compete with Transformers or something. Truth is, I bet you take all the people out there that gave it a "1" and put a camera in their hand and give them some money and see what they could do, they would realize quickly what their skillset is.No doubt if you were drunk or high this would be much better and if you have a buddy or significant other to enjoy it with it would be even more enjoyable. I don't do either of the first 2 and my wife was at work when I watched this, but still I enjoyed it for what it was.It is for a certain demographic of folks to enjoy and no doubt a small demographic, but we are out there. My point is, it saddens me to think there are people out there who rare this a "1" because they think it was "crap". The truth is they just didn't have realistic expectations and or were stupid enough to really think this was supposed to be a theatrical masterpiece. Are there people this dumb?

From the prestigious film studio "The Asylum," comes an awe-inspiring and breathtaking film titled "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus." The movies revolves around two prehistoric sea monsters that are now back in action after many years of being frozen in combat. Although that might sound a bit far-fetched on paper, the movie does a phenomenal job making it believable thanks to the great attention to detail given by legendary director Ace Hannah. The performances here are lively and energetic, and are displayed with great charisma. Vic Chao gives the performance of his life, and the chemistry between him and Deborah Gibson really make the movie work. There is a controversial sex scene between the two, but in my eyes, the sex scene really serves to advance the plot in an artsy yet non- pretentious manner. Not to mention the always great Lorenzo Lamas, who adds an extra dimension to his supporting role that I could not envision any other actor pulling off. Despite its limited budget, the movie's visual effects are outstanding. The visual effects are sharp and the cinematography really helps show it off. The highlight of this movie visually is the scene involving a confrontation between a plane and mega shark. Really powerful stuff. The movie doesn't come without its flaws, though. The movie has a somewhat slow pace, and focuses too much in building the foundation for the relationship between Emma and Dr. Seiji Shimada. Not to mention the scenes involving lab work are bogged down with scientific jargon that may be a bit much for most viewers. If you are willing to look past these flaws, a great and true masterpiece lies underneath "Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus." I recommend you check it out.
