Tied for the best movie I have ever seen
... View MoreThe movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
... View MoreThe movie really just wants to entertain people.
... View MoreA clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
... View MoreThis is surprisingly good effort of a buddy movie / teen sex comedy that starts on a light-hearted and fun note but gets heavier and darker until it collapses under its own weight.A group of 4 high school friends spend a night going out, having fun, and in the end, hiring prostitutes so that one of them can lose his virginity. Parallel to that story we get to meet the girlfriend of one of the guys who's at a slumber party. We learn a bit about each of the characters. And initially things are very funny- not just in terms of dialogue, but the kids do practical jokes on each other and others, including the law.Eventually they hire 3 attractive prostitutes for 5 hours or so and take them to the house of one of the kids. The guys are somewhat nervous, reluctant, hesitant so we get a lot of attempts to break the ice as they all spend some time in the living room. Finally they go to their separate rooms and the remaining guy spends the time playing video games and spying/listening in on the other guys. In between sexual acts there's a lot of conversation between the couples as they get to know each other and themselves. Again, the conversations start out light, but eventually secrets are revealed/discovered and things get surprisingly ugly. In the end it all falls apart and what started as a fun movie ends up on a real sour note that ruins the experience.Technically, there are some limitations obviously to the production. Some sets are better than others, for example. There's some outdoor filming which is good. The acting is superb I must say. The script is very good but full of foul language, understandable since our main characters are horny teens. Perhaps the sexual angle is exaggerated at first. But the actors do a great job in making it all seem completely natural. This movie would have been a great sex comedy if they had left it at that. But I guess the producers thought that a movie won't be taken seriously unless some drama is injected. The problem is that they just went overboard. There's a twist to every guy's story, a revelation of sorts but they are all for the worse. What starts out as a fun feel-good movie ends in a really ugly way that was completely unnecessary.
... View MoreAlthough I am Peruvian and I can identify with the language and some of the experiences of growing up in Lima, I believe this movie lacks a lot of crucial elements of good film-making. As a matter of fact, the art direction seems to be forgotten by the author. Even though a good portion of the film was shot using a free, hand-held camera style, similar to Mexico's 'Amores perros', the final product is a disappointment in terms of composition, angles, and lines, reminding me of early film school projects, where members of the crew are not yet fully aware of the significance of their job, at least not at a professional level. While some of the actors stand out, especially the female protagonists, most of the interpretation is weak. I do believe some of it comes out very natural, but that is not precisely a good quality. Even Italian Neorealism was preoccupied with a strong and believable interpretation. Good acting deserves more than every day sense of humor; it should have both a natural flow and depth. It was really surprising to me that talented actors like Melania Urbina and Milene Vasquez agreed to perform very graphic nude scenes in this film; not only do they expose their bodies in a senseless way, but also without any narrative concerns. The screenplay is amusing if someone is 13 years-old, but it mumbles and weakens every five minutes because it does not have a strong structure. Despite the crisis in the final sequence and the intention of creating a more dramatic resolution in the mind of the audience, I would have to discredit the writer since he has mainly a taste for cheap humor, making the final scenes unsuitable and detrimental to the movie as a whole.
... View MoreI think the movie was made with the expectation that it would generate more buzz locally (in Peru) than internationally. I say this because of all the Peruvian jargon, I imagine it lost a lot in translation and I know for a fact that non-Peruvians wouldn't enjoy it as much as those of us who are part of the culture.Generally, good acting by most characters and the cinematography (which has been described as poor by other users) was actually what made this movie enjoyable for me...it was successful in drawing you in as if watching the real lives of these teens. There is one erotic scene which was beautiful and tragic. It is when one of the call girls allows a young boy to witness and partake in her self-arousal. One of the scenes that makes me want to recommend this movie. Also great is when one of the prostitutes, after having been humiliated by a teen, hesitates before taking his money, then takes it anyway as if to assure him that for her it was a non-sentimental business transaction too.See it!
... View MoreIs a good try. The mistakes in illumination makes difficult to give a higher grade. But the story and the way to narrate it are trapping in a lot of times of the movie. The "semi-open" end could not conform to the audience. In stories like this, we want to know what happen later. But in the other side let it to the imagination is a good choice to make it perdurable in the audience mind. The cast is great. Actuation is a good surprise. The script is good. Direction does not give as nothing new but result is good. The movie is funny. I insist... is a good try. This filmmaker has a big future. I hope that big companies give him a hand to make more movies in future. "Mañana te cuento" confirms that is possible to do a good movie without much money.
