I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

... View Moren my opinion it was a great movie with some interesting elements, even though having some plot holes and the ending probably was just too messy and crammed together, but still fun to watch and not your casual movie that is similar to all other ones.
... View MoreIt's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
... View MoreI've hardly seen a movie so poorly made. How can anyone assume that visual appeal and good music make up for a bad script and weak presentation? The songs are enjoyable, but that only makes for a successful music album. Even a snail moves faster than the story; and in this age of shrinking movies, its 3-hours long!Shahid looks good as a grown man. But an actor in him has been thoroughly under-utilized in a poorly sketched character. Sonam, from any angle doesn't look like a mature lover. She looks pathetic. No doubt she is a fashion diva. She looks like a fashionable teenager misplaced in rustic India. And such immature acting! Don't blame it on her age or inexperience. There are others younger and with much fewer films who are much better. But I blame the director, not her. I in fact enjoyed watching her in Aisha, which seemed tailor-made for her. I feel Sonam is very pretty, more like a model; and she should limit herself to characters like tantrum-throwing rich teenager. She shouldn't try 'mature' stuff until she is really, really ready for them. (Which could be never!) The brief glamorous look she sports in the Scotland portion is totally unnecessary for the story, but probably the director put it there as he couldn't afford to show Sonam in a totally non-glamorous role. Indeed, her glamor quotient is her only marketable aspect!Anupam Kher is wasted in a miniature role. Aditi Sharma is a rare find. The industry shouldn't lose her or stereotype her in side roles. She looks much better than Sonam, making one wonder how can anyone reject her for the latter.About the story. The trailers make it appear a mature love story in the background of terrorism. These topics are nearly done to death. This movie offer nothing new in terms of patriotism, bravery and such morals. The love story reminds one of "Hum Tum" which was much more in-depth and meaningful. I mean come on, who can believe the girl was in love when she just shrugs and says 'sorry' when the guy asks her why she disappeared 7 years ago without even leaving a note? The director could have very easily inserted a completely plausible explanation for the gap. I was almost expecting the whole thing to be a tit-for-tat joke when Shahid doesn't show up for dinner, suddenly shifts base, only to be caught by her years later, and when she asks him why he didn't call or leave a note, shrugs and says 'sorry'!I've never seen such shallow dialogs by a heroine. Sample this: What is this we feel for each other? What? Cannot be expressed, only felt. Right?Right.I was almost rolling over with laughter when I saw this sequence! Each character is hollow with the exceptions of Fatima and Rajjo. But even Rajjo, who was a sincere, sweet and devoted lover, turns out to be filled with blind desire and jealousy, and lacking integrity. (But then she never claimed to have integrity in the first place; just blind worship; so that's kinda OK.) The hero is such a shallow character, one feels angry he is not falling in love with the sweet neighbor girl who lovingly cooks for him. He even exploits her love. And then he falls for another girl who breaks into uncontrollable laughter every time she sees him; and shows not much in either commitment or maturity. Its almost ironic justice how the undeserving hero gets the uninteresting girl.Songs are badly timed. The shot where Shahid gets off his plane with music in the background seems out of place. It would have been better suited as his introduction scene after the 7-year gap. The meeting of the lead pair after the long gap seems so hollow, emotion-less and chemistry-free. The meetings and separations lack the heart-wrenching, fist-clenching helplessness that one would normally expect. (Only the viewer feels helpless sitting through this boring movie.)Lots of ends are left open, and not even in a meaningful manner. -- Why is Rajjo still in love with the haughty, insensitive guy? -- In this information era, how can anyone who is a legal resident of any place (and retains his/her original name) cannot be traced in so many years, especially if they are not purposefully hiding? It can only mean that one is not trying hard enough! -- You don't have to fly to a place looking for someone. You can inquire by phone or email. If there is a forwarding address, can't you as well get it over phone? -- Forget the modern era. Unless they're fleeing floods, anyone in their right state of mind (even when they leave in a hurry) will leave a forwarding address when they shift base. Either with authorities or with the whole village, especially when the village is such a close-knit group. The whole crux of the story seems to be lack of forwarding addresses. It seems extremely old-school and filmy where a Scotlander says "sorry I don't know where they went" and shuts the door on the enquirer's face. Its too obvious that the director put that sequence to stretch the story. And one doesn't understand why the lady repeats the mistake of not leaving a note after being admonished by the guy for the same 'lapse' many years ago? And when leaving Mallukot, why does she stop after just leaving the address? She could keep calling the village from wherever she is, to inform of her whereabouts and get updates. -- It seems too filmy that they bump into each other in Scotland, Switzerland and then in Ahmedabad. But then its a movie, and i guess we can allow a little poetic license here. Still I feel its time Hindi cinema became more realistic when it comes to co-incidences.
... View MoreWhen anything comes with a name of Pankaj Kapoor expectations becomes very high weather it's a movie or a serial.Mausam also came with lots of expectation as it has been directed by Pankaj Kapoor.Story: Harinder Singh aka Harry (Shahid kapoor), whiles away his time in his native village, waiting for the letter to join the Indian Air Force. But before the letter arrives, he falls in love with Aayat (Sonam Kapoor), the displaced Kashmiri girl who lands up in the village when Kashmir falls prey to insurgency. However, the ill-fated romance gets disrupted by the political events like the Ayodhya dispute, the Mumbai bomb blasts, the Kargil war, the Gujarat riots.... The world simmers, violence spreads, but love never dies as Harry and Aayat keep hoping for a re-union, despite the passing years and the turbulent landscape When I have gone to watch this movie I have heard lots of bad reviews but somewhere in mind i have good feelings for this movie as after all its Pankaj Kapoor's movie who never do anything just to earn. When the movie started I fell in love with whole place he shown, the characters and artistic touch of pankaj kapoor. Romance of harry and Aayat was shown very beautifully. Romantic moments like Talking with each other by notes, Shahid watches from rooftop, rain scene, Conversation without saying anything were awesome.Upto interval movie is fantastic but after interval it loses grip due to too much separations, unneeded action scenes, events like godhra tiger hill...babri mosque twin tower blast and with too much filmy climax. In direction and cinematography department Pankaj Kapoor has done his best. Kudos to him. His way of showing the movie was fantastic. He just needed to cut movie length by not showing unnecessary events.Shahid and Sonam are perfect for this role. You will love Shahid in all the shades like Desi boy of Punjab, lover boy, Air force officer, Handicapped one. Like wise you will like sonam as Desi girl of Kashmir, Ballet dancer. Though shahid was looking pretty young as Air force officer but he managed it very well.In music and song department movie is powerful. None of them were unnecessarily put in the movie. Song while passing the note was surprise package for me, loved it very much. In script and screenplay department pankaj kapoor had to work to make movie better.Overall I can say movie takes has too much to offer to the audience which they can't digest due to its unnecessary length. If you are going to watch this movie then don't go with much expectations. My rating - 2.8/5 (In some parts its good else it is wasted due to its bad screenplay )
... View MoreThe critics of the nation has a definite agenda and that is to force only a certain category of films to the audience as general entertainers that have crude, loud comic situations, stupid one liners, mindless action & item numbers. MAUSAM thankfully does not have any of these and therefore for them it does not qualify for "General Audience" and thus is not a part of "Mainstream cinema". It surely does not have outstanding content and is not a masterpiece but rather a sensible film having good music, restrained performances & an original, gripping narrative, which can be viewed more for an experience. The film unfolds like a visual poetry on celluloid. The film can be compared to old vintage wine, those who know the taste will get it. It surely is one of the better films to come out this year.
... View MoreIt starts off much better than the useless action garbage Bollywood is shovelling down our throats these days, as season 1 of Mausam presents a simple and carefree love story. But as time passes and our star-crossed lovers continually fail to stay together, the film begins taxing on your nerves. It goes from great, to good, to indifferent and eventually stupid in the span of its almost 3 hour running time. Don't know what Pankaj was thinking but the flight sequence and completely over the top climax were really poor. Maybe someone told the director he needed more current commercial elements, and in succumbing to the same, he did his movie a great disservice. Luckily, both Shahid and Sonam give great performances along with the supporting cast, and the songs by Pritam are too good to ignore. It is a lot better than the countless Readys, Dabanggs, Forces and Bodyguards out there, but that is hardly a compliment.
