... View MoreThe movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
... View MoreThis movie is unbelievable. It is just amazing how the story goes, you go deep with it. It is a simple movie, but a real movie with a great story who makes you feel happy, sad, hopefully and show the human essentials. It is perfect! It is a long movie, but it could go longer, the story is so intense that when reaches its ends you turn into a desire for more.
... View MoreMew had history with Tong, and today, they meet. Mew doesn't really know that he has crushed with his friend, Tong. He doesn't feel any guilty. He knows nothing about his feeling and his term until Sunee, Tong's mother comes to tell him about their relationship. Mew Said "We're just friend.. We're just friend" In the other side, With Mew's life, there's Ying, the girl who's falling in love with Mew and with Tong's life, there's tough mother, alcoholic depression father and June, the stranger who acts like Tong's sister.Maybe if this story from West's culture, it wont really interesting for me but It's from Asia, from Thai. In Asia's culture everything will be hard when it comes to gay things. and as I see, the director of this movies was very smart, Chookiat Sakveerakul made this gay theme movie very cool and worth to watch whatever you're gay or straight. This movie's just like reality. I can take the drama and I enjoy it. I like when Mew's in love with Tong and Tong buys it. When Mew's broken and keeps distance from Tong, I see how hurt theirs and Mew who feel it the most, he finally find love but then his love's not able to complete. "I cant be your boyfriend but it doesn't mean I don't love you" Tong said that. this title's closed with portrait how deep Mew's feel about Tong and how hurt he is.Great soundtrack and original score, powerful casts. I wanna give 9 stars but 150 minutes, it's too long for me. 8 then
... View MoreTo me at least, The Love of Siam is simply NOT a gay film. The gay theme between the young Mew & Tong is just part of their growing up & pains in exploring their sexual identities through friendship; it's a focal point from which other many aspects of love branch out and develop; the love of Tong's mother for each of her family member, the love, loss & grief of Tang's Dad after Tang's missing, June's love for her own family members( at the expense of her work & job) & Tong's family, The friendship among the August Band members, Mew's love for his Gramdma, Mew's Grandma love for her husband, Ying's love for Mew & Tong..... it's a movie about accepting the fact that love can hurt & it's worthwhile to make mistakes out of love rather than choosing not loving/ not doing anything out of love for fear of getting hurt .... as for the outcome between Mew & Tong, it's quite immaterial to me after sometime... Love is the greatest Christmas gift of all....
... View MoreNeedless to say that so many people have been touched by the movie. But why? I can't even remember which was the last movie that touched me for years...I would say it's due to "purity". Nothing but love in the movie, all kinds of love, family, friends, lovers... everyone in the movie loves everyone else in the movie in their own ways, almost, but very tragical at the same time...There is not much contrast used in the movie, unlike other love movies, e.g. love vs. war, or love vs. religion etc... even the boy-boy love looks so natural...They are just common people, common family, common school, common boys and girls, you cannot say anything from their material lives that you don't have, but i bet you may not have their love. And some thinks the movie is too long... but i would say, this is why the movie is so depictive... i recall a flavour of famous Shanghai female writer... the very old song played by the granny is from Shanghai singer, Wu Yingyin, who's still alive and singing. :)
