Great visuals, story delivers no surprises

... View MoreIt isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.

... View MoreAndre Dussolier and Victoria Abril play an eccentric middle-aged French couple who have set up their own little private supermarket in their basement. After accidentally killing a rich old lady neighbor of theirs, they think that they will be her inheritors, but all her fortune goes to a mysterious - and never seen before by either of them - Algerian, who moves in next door. Suspecting that there is something wrong with this guy, they begin to spy on him and follow him around....Dussolier and Abril are talented actors who seem to be having fun working together (and Abril has still got "it"), but their performances are so consistently broad here that they tend to cross over into overacting. The film is designed to be a comedy-mystery, but it's a pretty ho-hum experience, until an interesting and quite unexpected turn of events near the end. A ** out of 4 seems about right.
