Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

... View Moreand the weakest link was the up and coming business hot shot played by Jake Hoffman (Dustin Hoffman's son.) He was too young and goofy to play a ruthless guy moving up in the business world.id have to say, i disagree with you. he was not supposed to play a ruthless guy moving up in the business world. I believe his role was that of an young and goofy guy who is accidentally moving up and moving into Leos spot. what i got from the film was that everything that was happening to Leo's job in regards to the young guy was all accidental or unintentional. he seemed to never want to take Leo's spot and he thought he was doing good at what he was hired to do. maybe thats just my take on it
... View MoreThis film has lots of interesting premises and a great cast, which should have, in my opinion, added up to a lot more entertaining movie. It's greatest fault seems to be that it can't decide if it really wants to be funny or if it wants to be heartwarming. Instead, it is only occasionally amusing, and when it wanders into absurdity, which in a funnier movie could work magic, it just seems to be content with a few semi-philosophical half-baked platitudes. Overall, the story isn't that credible or interesting. The actors are all really good in their roles, so I'm assuming the biggest fault is the slightness of the story and/or the slow packing of the direction. Not a bad movie, just a waste of time and talent.
... View MoreIt's been 3 days since I've seen this wonderful movie and still thinking about it and all the wonderful stories it contains. It should have been included with all the movies up for awards this year. There is something in this movie for everyone to relate to in their life.I just left a woman of 101 who used the line "Why is it so hard to die"? How many people have felt the same? How many have been caught in a routine position where there is always the fear of losing their job and not really feeling happy or appreciated for their work? How many of us have worried about our teenage children? All of these relevant subjects have been developed in this marvelous film with deep thought and much humor.
... View MoreLooking into the life of a man in his 50's is always fascinating and seldom done in movies (think About Schmidt) because it isn't considered marketable. This movie avoids clichés, stereotypes, etc., with respect to resolving conflicts. It's based on a compilation of two great short stories and the screenplay is equally intelligent. I want to go buy the book of short stories now. A great cast of actors who will do a film for low dough because the material is so good. Peter Riegert, especially, is always someone who can give depth and humanity to any performance, and it really comes through here. (Why this guy can't get a reading/screen test these days when they are casting f%*&g Paris Hilton in feature films is beyond me. I guess Hollywood moguls really operate like the slime balls in 'Player.' Most of all, this film is hilarious! I don't think I've laughed so hard in a long time. I can't go into details on the humor because it will spoil the movie for those who haven't seen it. Check it out!!!!
