It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
... View MoreThe story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
... View MoreThere are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
... View MoreA terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.
... View MorePriyadarshan made good dramatic films like GARDISH and VIRASAT before shifting to comedy which became his forte but off recent his films got repetitive, he tried to do other kinda cinema like Aakrosh which flopped too. Khatta Meetha was Akki-Priyan's subsequent release after the average De Dana Dan, which was a comedy this is a satire and tries to be different but ends being a mayhem. Priyan had given Akshay's career a filip with Garam Masala which was the film that made him famous in comedies and became a hit but sadly off recent their pairing became not too successful. This film is a remake of Priyan's Vellanakalude Nadu (1988) as in most of his films. It tries hard to be serious in the second half but comes as a farce. In fact the script is of convenience, It's hardly logical, The drama in the house is so 80s like, it's hard to digest Akshay's corrupt nature is inconsistent, One fails to understand if he is corrupt then why his corrupt brother in laws don't support him? Lot of loopholes, anyway finding logic in Priyan's films is rare The film is very predictable, loud as usual and gets irritating Trisha's character is even more confusing, her change of heart looks too sudden. The second half gets dramatic and does get a bit engaging towards the end but it's less to undo the harmPriyan handles some scenes well especially comedy scenes and dramatic scenes too but it's getting boring now, But the scene in Asrani's house, the climax fight between Akshay and Jaideep are well handled Music is okay, Sajde is the best song, rest are forcedAkshay Kumar tries hard to look a commonman and does well but does tend to scream and overdo too often too much. Trisha fails as an actress, she doesn't look a municipal commissioner Amongst rest mostly regulars of Priyan films Rajpal Yadav does his same role it's getting boring, Asrani is as usual, Johny Lever does invoke laughter in a small role, Manoj Joshi is loud, Milind Gunaji has too brief a role, Khulbushan Kharbanda is okay, Aruna Irani seen after a hiatus is wasted, Makrand gets no role, Jaideep is amazing, Urvashi last seen in NAQAAB is okay
... View MoreI am rating it a 10 because it is under rated.First of all, it is very funny. Those actors know how to be funny. There were two funny scenes that I had to watch more than once. The father's painting got blackened, and the guy who got all mixed during his two phone conversations. I also laughed hard when the road roller was running backward. The chicken music was also funny when it was used during the bathroom peeking scene. It is amazing that even though the Indian economy is not as good as China's, but their filmmakers are making impressive realistic films about bureaucracy than any Chinese directors can ever make! I am certain that these kinds of things are happening in mainland China right now, bridges collapsing, roads that need to be fixed constantly due to corruption, etc. However, Chinese film directors can never make any films like this one due to communist censorship. This is another film which Chinese directors should all watch, and make one of their own. Here are a few famous quotes that I wrote down.1. So if you are benefiting from it, then let us reap some benefits as well. If we benefit the country will progress, who cares about the country's progress? We are the country.2. Only dishonest and cheat people can lie peacefully in this country.3. I am allergic to bullshit. Minister's lecture.- bullshit. He'll give food to everyone. bullshit. We will drink clean water, bullshit. We have the power in our hands and legs. We are not less than anyone. O thorn of the country listen to me. Why do you fill your pockets? If he gets a chance, he'll sell the whole country.New roads and bridges will be built, bullshit. We won't get stuck in the traffic, bullshit. The work will be done on time, bullshit.
... View MoreKhatta Meetha directed by Priyadarshan is awful. After watching this awful movie, you feel sorrow that you wasted your money on this movie.I can't believe that he is the same director who won the National Award for Best Director 2-3 years back The story of the movie is about corruption in India.Whats new? This has been told in more than thousand movie. But here the Sachin Tichkule (our very own Akshay Kumar) shows corruption in a comical way.The movie is a big letdown in terms of direction, acting(except Johnny Lever and Asrani),music,story,screenplay...everything.Performances-As mentioned above Johnny Lever and Asrani are the only ones who shine in brief roles.Trisha Krishnan is okay. The rest are dull(including Akshay Kumar). On the whole Khatta Meetha is bad!
... View MoreI watched Khatta Meetha this weekend. I was totally disappointed. There were too many plots and sub plots. 1. The sister's treatment and death was handled very badly. 2. Akshay's character and his family are supposed to be based in 'satara'. Most of the characters, like his dad, himself and the sister talk in heavy 'punjabi' accent...there was just no authenticity in the movie. 3. When the road roller breaks Trisha's house, beyond that one scene, there was no feeling of despair and a couple of scenes later the house is totally intact, like nothing happened to it.I like Trisha in the Tamil movies, but here she could barely act or emote.Overall a very disappointing flick.
