When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

I was 3 years old when this movie was released. My parents would rent it for me over and over again. I have been looking for a copy of it for YEARS as I would love to show it to my children.I have vague recollections of the story itself but I have strong emotional ties to it as I watched it hundreds of times.

I recorded this movie off of TV when my children were little (some of them had not even been born yet!) I still have the VHS tape and plan on transferring it to DVD when i have the time. I would love for any future grandchildren I might have to see this delightful movie.Another movie/show I remember from when I was a child was called "for the Love of Fred". Fred was a caterpillar that changed into a butterfly at the end of the show. I have not been able to find any listings, information, etc...about this movie. I was probably about 10-12 when I saw it, so that would have been a LONG time ago--over 40 years ago! If you have any info on it I would appreciate you sending me a message,Thanks!

Katy the caterpillar has been one of the best animated films ever made. Even today, the story is so moving, so tender, so sweet, it reaches every heart. I have a daughter who is only 18 months and she just adores this film. The story is so simple that it is great! a caterpillar who wants to become a "flying flower", and goes trough life finding her own destiny despite all the comments made from her sisters. It gives a great message as to always pursue your dreams.I was only three when it was shown in Mexico, and I still have that tape when it was shown on TV. I wish they show both films again, this one and the second part (Katy, kiki y koko)

I must have been around 9 or 10 years old. My memory is all fuzzy over this, and I have never, ever seen any reference to this movie except for here. So I have decided to take a trip down memory lane, with the other 2 people who might also someday remember about this story.First of all. I do remember this was a big deal in Mexico, since it was either the first animated motion picture to come out of Silvia Roche's (of "Odisea Burbujas" fame - who can forget!) mind. The usual media blitz now associated with a Disney release (although at a lesser scale, of course) was implemented here, too! I remember I had a Katy the Caterpillar glow-in-the-dark figurine, and there were books, toys, etc.Funny thing is, why would a mexican cartoon had all the text in the movie in english? I clearly remember when Katy goes to a club, the banner reads "Cheese-o-theque", and the character read "Ques-o-teca". Pretty weird. I guess mexican kids were always second-rate to the producers.Anyway, what was the story about? Simple. A caterpillar who thought she was too chubby and ugly, so she leaves home in search of adventures. Along the way, somehow, she morphs into a rather cute butterfly.I would watch this one over again, but just because of the memories it brings back. If I remember correctly, the animation was terrible, the drawings were pretty bad, and everything was in english.Still, I rate it a 7 because if I ever can watch it again, it will be the best trip down memory lane I could ever have.
