It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

I love this movie in every way possible. The exploration into everyday life characters that we all can relate to. Take time to watch this movie, I want to someday with my teens, when they are old enough, I only wish they could see what everyone experiences through phases of their lives. It is a laughable movie that can turn to tears in an instant, but in the end you are left with an amazing piece of art. I not only found one of my favorite movies but a song that I love but can't get from Snow Patrol. Bravo, to the producers and the cast every single one of the cast for making each part of this movie speak to everyone that watches it. You can't walk away from this movie without being touched, you just can't.

Last night I was surfing through Stan:struggling to find a movie. Just before giving up I scrolled past this again and decided as the cover looked artsy and the description interesting, that I could at very least chuck it on and give it a few minutes before going to bed. Now,from the start I found the idea of casual suicide (not horrific, but relieving) interesting and decided to keep watching a bit longer. The opening sequence and set up for his dilemma, although a little rushed and not completely effective was enough to convince me the main character was interesting (in his boringness) and that the premise of going back to get revenge on people before he kills himself would be entertaining. And it was;but in an unexpected way. This movie shifted (often awkwardly) from very vulgar "spoof-like" humour to serious issues like suicide, family break-down, bullying, social acceptance and the common feeling of meaningless.Sometimes the humour was a little out of place - but on the other hand, it actually worked as a distraction for the characters who behind the satire are very real people. I enjoyed this movie: both laughing and taking in its message.

this movie would have been amazing if it wasn't for it's crude humor and unnecessary rude scenes. it really didn't need that. the crude humour in it wasn't really that funny. just kind of annoying. i really liked the movie though. it was inspiring. it showed how we all have our demons and where all going through tough things in life.it was a touching movie about life and not giving up. it would have been better it they sicked to drama and didn't add the comedy though. i felt like the two just didn't mix well together. it had good acting, the perfect choice for actors. the characters where each relatable and had there own story

We found this movie on DVD from the public library. My introduction to Seann William Scott was those years ago where he played the dumbest, most useless character in the world in the "American Pie" movies. In fact in one of my reviews I stated that he ruined the movie for me. Now he carries this movie and he does it well, proving that with the right material he is good. Here he is Ted Morgan and as the movie begins we see him underwater, apparently about to drown. he wants to die, he is tired of finding reasons why he should live.In flashbacks we see Ted was a nice, smart, meek boy who was bullied in grade school. He grew up to be an ordinary, middle of the road guy, working in a pet store and married, but then seeing his wife cheating with her guitar instructor. When he grew up he moved as far away from Massachusetts as he could, to California. So now he is going back, to tell off the teacher who was mean to him, to punch the bully, and then with his life in order kill himself. His plans hit a pothole when he meets pretty and upbeat Olivia Thirlby as Greta, the dying old teacher's granddaughter, as he is yelling at her in her old folks home bed. Greta decides she will document Ted's quest to end his life.So basically what this movie is about is Ted's thinking he has it so bad but when he goes back home the cute little girl is now married with 5 kids, a dullard for a husband, she does laundry, and she has gotten very big. The bully he finds out was always bullied by his own dad and has grown up to be a very nice guy who loves his own special needs son. His brother's wife is acting weird. So basically he sees that he actually has it pretty good compared to others. Garret Dillahunt is often a bit too far over the top as Ted's policeman brother, Lucky Morgan, and his unhappy wife who pretends to be sleep walking when she goes into Ted's room at night to undress and masturbate in front of him, Kate Walsh as Kathleen Morgan. Then there's the homosexual teenage son. Yes, this story has some really screwed up characters, the humor works often but sometimes it is just weird. But overall it is a good movie as long as one doesn't shy away from lots of filthy language by most characters. That seems to be how everyone is making comedies these days. On a side note it was nice seeing Connie Stevens as Nancy, the mom of Ted and Lucky. Seann William Scott is the best thing in this movie.
