I was totally surprised at how great this film. You could feel your paranoia rise as the film went on and as you gradually learned the details of the real situation.

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

Horst in Translation (filmreviews@web.de)

"Immer die Radfahrer" is a West German live action movie from 1958. It was directed by Hans Deppe and written by Wolf Neumeister and Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff. The latter also plays one of the main characters in here. Just like most German-language film from around that era, it does not get past the 90-minute mark. And it is in color. I mentioned Kulenkampff already, but the real lead actor here is Heinz Erhardt, the German comedy legend. But unfortunately I must say that, here, he does not have the material to really shine. This film will soon have its 60th birthday and after having watched a whole bunch of movies from that era, I must say that it was not a particularly good time for films in Germany. Apart from that, I also feel the title is really random here. Yes there are cycling references, but it's just a really minor thingey. I personally give this movie a thumbs down. Not recommended.

Heinz Erhardt seems like the only performer that is capable of a few mild "intentional" laffs, in this harmless fifties comedy. Peter Kraus (The German "Pat Boon"!) as his son provides at least a fascinating insight at how Rock'n'Roll was made safe for the German youth. I'm constantly put off by the shallowness and safeness of the German postwar films. At a time when films like "Night of the Hunter" and "Kiss Me Deadly" were possible, Germany was churning out pleasing junk like the "Heimatfilme". So this badly acted, staged and sung movie is strictly for the die-hard Retrohounds.

I had a great time watching this movie, brilliant fotografie, great acting. Specially Heinz Erhardt. 3 old friends are going on a cycle holliday, like they did 20 years ago. Inge Meysel is much younger here then she is now, but, like today a great comedy actress. A real treat of the 50" when the roads would still enable you to have a cycle holliday and watch the countryside (some very nice scenery in this movie) instead of the traffic.
