There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Too much island and not enough spider. Not to mention dialogue like, "There's absolutely no reason yet to fear the worst. Until now, we only know that the plane caught fire and we've lost radio contact."En route to a show in Singapore, a troupe of beautiful dancers is stranded on a deserted island when their plane crashes. Before long, a radioactive spider bites their manager and turns him into a wild- eyed, furry-faced monster with three fangs and a passion for strangling. But remember, there's no need to fear the worst. This was made in Germany as a skin flick. For its U.S. release, it was re-edited in an effort to appeal to both fans of nudie and horror movies. (It appealed to neither.) The biggest "horror" of this film is the MAD MEN-styled sexism that our token male, Gary, exhibits toward the women—or, as he calls them, girls. Then there's the horrendous dubbing job, right down to the half-assed background noises. In one scene, as a dancer showers beneath a waterfall, we hear what sounds like gargling. When the plane crashes, it magically transforms from a DC-3 into what looks like a Japanese Zero in a ball of kamikaze fire. Furthermore, Gary calls his gun a revolver, even though it has no chamber. In fact, when Gary loads the gun, he shoves in a magazine, thereby proving it's not a revolver. Not that any of this matters. The so-called "plot" was merely an excuse to show pretty young women in various states of undress. In that regard, I suppose the film succeeded. And the jazzy score greatly contributes to the burlesque mood the film sets from Scene One. Of course, it was 1960, so the most cheesecake you'll see involves tight-fitting bikinis. Still, they do fit tightly! Now I'll have to re-watch the MST3K episode.

I've only seen this in a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" episode, but judging from the synopses that I've read, very little material of any importance was cut.An international impresario, Gary, is flying a planeload of showgirls to Singapore for an engagement (the film begins with the auditions). However, the plan crashes in the South Pacific, killing the pilot and crew. Gary and the showgirls manage to make it to a small island in a rubber raft. There, they find a deserted hut with the body of a man suspended in a giant spider web - he was apparently a scientist looking for uranium on the island. Soon after, Gary goes out for a walk and is bitten by a spider around the size of a small dog. He kills it, but its bite results in his turning into a monster. He begins to prey on the showgirls.First of all, the synopsis on IMDb is inaccurate, since there is only one spider and the one person bitten does not turn into a spider, but a sort of weird "were-spider" hybrid. However, that hardly makes a difference, because this is a terrible movie, and maybe the most sexist film I have ever seen. It's really much more of a sexploitation film than a horror film; the horror content is pretty light. The showgirls who end up on the island are portrayed as completely brainless and helpless without men around. When two men arrive in a rowboat with supplies for the dead scientist, the women are only too happy to have sex with complete strangers because they are SO hungry for men.The film is also really shoddy technically. The special effects are laughable. The big (but not giant) spider that originally bites Gary looks like a cartoon menace and the "were-spider" that Gary becomes looks a bit scary, but sure doesn't look anything like a spider. In his excellent book on 50's (and early 60's) SF films, "Keep Watching the Skies," Bill Warren reviews this under the title "Horrors of Spider Island." He gives it a negative review, but his review still didn't prepare me for how shockingly amateurish this film was. Proof that continental Europeans can make low-budget films just as badly as the Americans!

It didn't take long to realize that this movie had been completely changed from whatever it had originally been.I guess it was basically a porn and the spider stuff was just added in later?Even with all the sex cut out there's still very little about the whole spider thing. The dubbed voices are great.I suspect that the same person did every woman's voice. All the women have very distinct and very bad accents. The story is very boring. It starts with a guy auditioning a dozen dancers for a mystery trip. The auditions take forever then thirty seconds later their plane has crashed head first into the ocean at 300mph and they are all dry and on a life raft. Then the guy has sex with them all and then he becomes a spider man and just goes away. Then two more guys show up to have sex with all the women.I give it two stars because it has to be better than the original.Probably worth watching if you like bad monster movies.

This movie's idea is one for a regular porno movie; which, of course, you won't get here.HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND gets a nice sexy start, with a group of hot young women who seem intent on going to Singapore—as dancers: the blonde May, Rhonda, Babs with the golden legs—beautiful women in peril—which kind of comes directly from the pulps of weird menace and foretells a genre masterpiece like SLAVE OF THE CANNIBAL GOD (yeah, the script even has the uranium searchers).Getting lost with these young dancers on an island makes one happier than the Bounty mutineers. An exciting is conventional script is though spoiled by sheer incompetence, and also a cast of cute babes is thus wasted; the whole flick is blunt, badly made, it lacks the necessary sharpness and gusto, though I kind of enjoyed it.The last third of the movie is underachieved porn.'A real man is interested in only one girl.'
