Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

This is a collection of short stories (about 10 minutes each) of the following holidays: Valentine, St Patrick, Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween, Christmas, and New Year's. I did enjoy a few of the stories sometimes thinking they would have been a better feature length film such as St. Patrick. I was least excited about Father's Day. Warning to religious folk, the Easter Bunny has the wounds of Jesus as the film combines the two tales. I am not sure why a cassette tape, even when old would pop and click like a record. The efforts seemed half-baked.Guide: F-word. Ample nudity in Mother's Day episode.

So it isn't that easy to make an Anthology after all. That's one of the "positive" things you can take from watching this. If you're mean you could even argue that SyFy has done better feature length movies than most of the shorts being on display here. One thing is for certain: there is not much to cherish to be found here. And it's a shame, because it did sound cool. Kevin Smith alone doing a short sounds great. But then again, I guess even he was either too busy with other stuff or somehow else occupied. Maybe something else happened, you never know, except you do know where the short stories are going. And almost none of them actually can create a mood, a tension, a story or anything else substantial to hold the viewers attention. There are some neat effects (the Easter Bunny story comes to mind) and occasionally a bit of quality that seems to shine through a story. But in the end, it's more like "whatever" and "why did I watch this again?" feelings that overwhelmingly win and leave you befuddled

Holidays is a anthology movie that is comprised of 8 shorts, each with a different holiday as a main theme. Now with a premise like that you would think that this would be an amazing movie, especially with the likes of Kevin Smith directing one of the shorts. But sometimes even the easiest ideas are horribly botched. Was this movie a disaster...well...kinda.From the start I was expecting that not all shorts are gonna be the same quality, but what I was not expecting is that only 2 shorts were scary. The best short and the most frightening by far is the Easter one.Truly horrifying and twisted it captured that sense of old school horror with a newer looking monster. My second favorite is The New Year short,it had a predictable twist but I nonetheless enjoyed it.Before I start rambling about the not so good shorts,I would like to talk about one that left me completely disappointed. It wasn't necessary bad but it was just wasted potential. The short in question was Father's Day.It was if I am not mistaken the shortest one but still it had so much potential. The directing and cinematography were Spielberg level of great.I was in awe at some of the scenes, truly breathtaking...and then the ending came and ruined everything. And when I say everything I mean everything. It just destroyed everything that it was trying to hype up...utterly disappointing.I am not gonna talk a lot about the other 5 shorts, because in my opinion they all suffer from the same problem more or less. They are just not scary or even interesting. They all feel rushed and a lot of the story is just left out for cheap „scares".Kevin Smith especially disappointed me.His short Halloween was by far the worst one.Valentine's day,Mothers day and Christmas were so incredibly boring, dumb and riddled with plot holes that it was almost unwatchable. In the end I thought Holidays was a mixed bag.It had 2 good shorts,1 mediocre one and 5 bad ones.In my opinion I don't suggest watching this one,but if you are really interested in the movie, watch the Easter short and New Year's one on Youtube because its not worth watching the rest of it to get to the good parts.

HOLIDAYS is an anthology feature film that puts a uniquely dark and original spin on some of the most iconic and beloved holidays of all time by challenging our folklore, traditions and assumptions.Where this anthology fails is in being an anthology. The idea is very good, but unfortunately the weak spots bring the film as a whole down. The worst segment, amazingly, was from the biggest name attached: Kevin Smith, and his take on "Halloween". It had such potential to make a comment on young women who are duped into coming to LA, or it could have been an interesting witch story, but he squanders it on a throwaway idea. Some segments are just alright. "Valentine's Day" is not bad, but not good. It has some darkly humorous moments, a nice homage to "Carrie", and a twist that is somewhat predictable but still rather sweet. The two best were "Easter" and "Father's Day". The Easter story deserves lots of credit simply for the creature design, but also takes on a mythology that is to be commended. The Father's Day story is my favorite. I love how it was crafted, I love the lighting, the voice delivery, everything about it. The only thing that could have made it better is if the last two or three seconds had been cut off.So, as a whole, "Holidays" is only worth a 5 or 6. Some segments could easily be 7 or 8, but they are weighted down by the worst. In this case, that is Kevin Smith. I enjoyed both "Red State" and "Tusk" (which puts me in the minority, I believe), but there was just no spark of creativity in this one.
