He Knows You're Alone Trailers

A reluctant bride-to-be is stalked by a serial killer who only kills brides and the people around them. While her friends get whacked one by one, a hard-boiled renegade cop whose bride had been killed years before tries to hunt the killer down before it is too late.

Bride-to-be Marie hates horror movies but is watching one with her friend. Someone stabs her to death in the back. Police detective Len Gamble is called in. He figures that it's the same man who killed his bride-to-be years earlier. Meanwhile, Amy Jensen (Caitlin O'Heaney) is planning her marriage to Phil. Her ex Marvin won't let her go. Nancy and Joyce are her best friends. Someone starts killing the people around her. It's a new age for horror but not every one can be Halloween. In fact, most are much less than the best ones that everybody remember. This is one of those. It's also much more inferior by the comparison. The opening movie theater kill is superb and lovely. However, the movie takes a long slide downwards but then Tom Hanks shows up. This is early Tom Hanks in his film debut. Leaving that aside, this movie is a basic serial killer flick without anything special. The killer has no distinguishing qualities. The lead is actually a fine actress but the acting overall is unmemorable. There is nothing here other than Hanks and the opening kill.

It's kind of hard to believe that Metro Goldwyn Mayer, even in 1980, would get involved with a slasher movie. But MGM was really on the skids around this time, so maybe they thought they good grab some of that box office gold the slasher movie genre was generating then. I don't know if the movie made a profit or not, but I imagine that audiences who saw the movie back then were quite disappointed. It's fairly well produced for this genre, and director Armand Mastroianni does occasionally during the stalk/slash sequences put in a little zing. But the movie for the most part is surprisingly boring. Part of the reason for that is that there is little of the essential staples found in other examples of the genre, namely gore and sexual elements. But a larger reason is that the movie is relentlessly padded. Scene after scene goes by that moves the (thin) plot little to no advance at all. The characters are also bland and uninteresting, especially the antagonist, who is given almost no personality at all. The icing on the cake is that the antagonist's fate at the end is left kind of unexplained. While some viewers may find the movie of some interest to see an early role by Tom Hanks, I much preferred seeing an early role by Steve James of the "American Ninja" franchise instead.

Totally average and very chaotic slasher movie. However I feel a sentiment to eighties movies and often find them more entertaining than an average modern cinema.I think especially the ending would work better if we had a closer look at the killer or at least at Phil, a groom to be. Instead we get some insights of the detective chasing the guy and a friend dating a character played by Tom Hanks among many other subplots.I watched it only because i am checking movies released in 1980. Same evening i saw Prom Night & The Island. Prom Night holds up much better. It was Tom Hanks first role in a movie, so for this reason i wanted to check it out as well. Actually James Rebhorn made a more interesting appearance, his character is memorable and real fun to watch.

A trash slasher from the genre's glory days with neither a recognizable purpose nor a firm grasp of what makes a good screamer tick. With something like 75% of its duration dedicated to pointless errands, unnecessary supporting characters and a drab, one-way relationship drama, this is quite easily the least suspenseful thriller I've ever been unlucky enough to sit through. Even the kills are yawners, perpetrated by a hopelessly wacky, unexplained knifeman without a motive or even a loose pattern. He'll creep out from behind a curtain for a big scare, then stand around in confusion as his prey rushes past to a waiting doorway. At one point he desperately tries to nail down a quarry by furiously stabbing the windshield of their car. It's a total mess; before long it's useless even as fodder for a good riffing or unintentional comedy. A very young Tom Hanks stumbles in for a throwaway role late in the action, but moments later he stumbles right back out, never to be seen again. Complete waste of time.
