Slow pace in the most part of the movie.

A lot of fun.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

An old-fashioned movie made with new-fashioned finesse.

The two things that saved this movie are the fight scenes and Jackie Chan. The fights are spectacular, fast and straight up, no props. Not that I don't love great Jackie Chan fights with props and acrobatics, but when you strip everything down, just watching these two guys go at it and how beautifully they move is exciting. I like seeing Jackie do something serious and romantic. He does it well and he's hot! I didn't need this movie to know that - Jackie's been hot since Drunken Master. But in Gorgeous, you see him take some long, pretty looks into the camera and the camera loves him right back. I liked his character in this movie - reminded me of a lot of guys I know - and I like the way he played it casually and subdued. More realistic than the slick talking egomaniac type of character than we usually see in that role. Most guys you meet in real life who have the status of Jackie's character in this movie are much like how he played it - quiet and confident alone, somewhat awkward with other people. I thought that was pretty perceptively written and something you don't see very often, unless it's being overdone. The overall concept of the story wasn't bad, but a lot of scenes are resolved far too easily and unrealistically. I won't include details here so as not to give spoilers. But even comedies should be somewhat plausible in scene resolution. What really killed it for me was Qi Shu's character. I looked up her real age and she was 22 when this movie came out, so she might have been around 20 when they made it. WHY does she look, act and talk like she's 15? I get that her playfulness was what attracted him, but a grown man attracted to a girl who skips around like a little child and eats like a 10 year old boy just doesn't work. She could have been playful and charming in a far more mature way and it would have made a huge difference.

Like everyone says, this isn't your usual Jackie Chan movie, but who's to say he can only make action? The love story is basic, but with the cast it makes an enjoyable movie. All the characters are great, specially Tony Leung Chiu Wai. I've never seen him before, but after this movie I'll have to check him out! The other memorable characters are the brothers henchmen, I love these guys.Jackie Chan and Qi Shu are great as the leading actors, and really believable. Also, the fighting scenes with Bradley James Allan are amazing!! Just watch his moves, it's insane!I'll recommend this to anyone who's not usually a fan of romantic- comedies. And also to all Jackie Chan fans, because the fight scene with Bradley is one of the best fight scenes with Jackie I've ever seen!

Although Jackie is about 20 years senior to Shu Qi, their chemistry works in this movie. This is a light hearted romance with quite a bit of kung-fu action mixed in. Jackie is a tycoon living in Hong Kong. He meets Shu Qi who arrived from Taiwan by chance and older Jackie shows her about town in his millionaire style.Shu Qi is great in this movie. She brings fresh element to old school Jackie Chan movie which says to me that she has talent. She generates personality that's so perfect for this movie, and I loved the way story unfolded between them.Quality of production is good as always in Jackie Chan movie. He's not playing a strait romeo he usually plays with his women co-stars in this movie, and acknowledges that he's a bit older character now. Not as many unexpected plots or action you'd expect from Jackie Chan movie, but the experimental aspect of bringing much younger Shu Qi worked in this one.

This is a Jackie Chan movie with a difference, it is also a romantic film. The same Jackie trademarks are exhibited, the action scenes and the humour, but the romantic angle is fuller than in his other films. The storyline is based on an old concept, a message in a bottle, but updated. The characters are well chosen and believable. The action scenes are up to Jackies usual standard with plenty of humour mixed in. I really enjoyed this movie as it caters for all the included genres equally. For those who enjoy purely action films stick to Bruce Lee or John Woo. It was not the best romantic comedy I have ever seen, but this is one of the best films that span several genres in equal amounts. Awarded an 8 but perhaps should have been a 9 for its successful mix of styles.
