... View MoreThe Pink Panther finds a magic lamp in the streets and it starts talking to him. Instead of the lamp granting wishes to the panther, it encourages the panther to become the genie himself. Then, the panther could have the powers to grant other people's wishes as long as they rub the lamp. However, nobody seemed to be interested in rubbing at the lamp, as it gets used it all sorts of purposes, from being used as a tea kettle to a hockey puck. It's just a lot of back and forth of lamp rejects to the panther trying to dodge obstacles while stuck in the lamp. Not many laughs here and not many action.Grade D+
... View MoreThe Pink Panther has lots of entertaining cartoons, and The Genie with the Light Pink Fur is one such cartoon. It is also one of his most inventive in a scenario that I don't think has been done in a Pink Panther cartoon. well certainly not before The Genie with the Light Pink Fur that is. The first half is a little better than the second half in terms of humour, but that is not a problem as The Genie with the Light Pink Fur maintains its imagination and sense of fun throughout right to the end. The gags, a numerous amount too, are very well timed and clever, not to mention very funny. You also feel Pinky's frustration and you do feel sorry for him. The animation is clean and elegantly shaded, no obvious starkness, scrappiness or flatness. The music does nothing to dull the story or gags, it is still jazzy and you still remember it. The theme tune is very catchy and one of those that will not irritate you no matter how many times you hear it(I myself can't count the number of times I've heard it and I love it still). Pinky is fun, cool and instantly likable, in this cartoon as said already you are sympathetic towards his predicament. In conclusion, imaginative and funny, with a great unique(for Pink Panther) idea and packed with clever gags. A winner, and one of the better 1966 Pink Panther outings. 9/10 Bethany Cox
... View MorePinky is out for a stroll when he comes across a talking lamp (why they call Genie Lamps 'lamps' is beyond my understanding as they are clearly old-fashioned kettles) that tries to sell him the pros of being a genie (the life and soul of the party and so on). Pinky falls for it and crams himself into the lamp (it's a kettle), eagerly awaiting his first wishmaker. But instead of being the life and soul of the party the lamp/kettle is kicked around, stomped on and thrown away by everyone it encounters, giving Pinky inside a rather rough ride. It's quite funny and I did feel sorry for Pinky. He only wants to entertain. And that he did, though by accident I think.
... View MoreThe pink panther encounters a talking lamp and he becomes the genie of that lamp. Inside the lamp it is not as good as he hoped for when the lamp is mistaken for a lot of other things. With a great number of big laughs, especially in the first half, this is a great short from the pink panther.
