This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

This seems to be a part one of a made for TV movie series. A 200 year old scientist is creating a stronger race of humans that appear to have little personality or acting ability. Two detectives are assigned the task of solving these murders with New Orleans as the backdrop. During an autopsy it is discovered one of the victims was one of these super beings. The "why" the monster kills was not really explained, nor do we know how many of these Frankensteins are really out there. The scenes were mostly dark. Monster make-up was light. No nudity or bad language. One sexual scene. The film moves a bit slow as it builds up to important action scenes that never fizzle. If you got into the X-Files stuff, this movie might interest you.

This is a Frankenstein sequel. Most of the time Frankenstein sequels are good. But this one is not. In this movie the monsters is the hero and Doctor Frankenstein is the bad guy. I don't think I care for that to mush. This one doctor Frankenstein and the monster live into modern times. The monster meet a female cop. And there are both trying to stop the evil doctor Frankenstein. The book and older movies. Doctor Frankenstein is good guy. And the monster is the bad guy. So I real don't care for it. It not very scary. Bad story line. Bad acting. Skip it. This is pooh pooh. Don't wast your money. Do wast your time. Do not see this movie.

For me, this picture turned out a lot better than I thought it would be. It uses the familiar Frankenstein concept of patching bodies together from the remnants of deceased degenerates by an evil doctor who's pursuit in life is the creation of perfection. In that regard, I thought the method Victor Helios (Thomas Kretschmann) used to reinvent his own wife was kind of unique. And good old Deucalion gave new meaning to the term 'I sing the body electric'.There are other elements that made the film a unique experience as well. Adam Goldberg got to deliver a bunch of zany lines as Detective Michael Sloane opposite partner Carson O'Conner (Parker Posey). Their back and forth banter was rather amusing amid unusually grim circumstances, particularly with a room full of hanging razor blades and a box with a 'sacred heart' in it. The best though was the reference to Detective Harker's (Michael Madsen) 'go nuts' room. I just never expected to see Zip-loc bags used in product placement for a movie.Depending on your disposition though, the ending didn't seem very satisfying. It left things wide open for a follow up sequel, but who in their right mind is going to follow this thing with another flick. Maybe I shouldn't say that, Martin Scorsese wound up on this one as executive producer.

This movie was an excellent movie. It stayed along the lines of the book extremely well. It was based off of the series of books obviously titled "Frankenstein." They didn't have enough permission to make any more movies so yes it ended with a cliff hanger just like the first book. They were written by Dean Koontz and are definitely some of my favorite books. There are two so far and a final one to come this year or next. My advise is to stop complaining about the ending of this movie and to pick up the books and read. They are excellent. I promise. Really. Me and my friend have both read them and he can back me up.God Bless, -=Nash and Glenn=-
