A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

... View MorePlot; The survivors of a plane crash must overcome their differences if they're rebuild their plane and escape their Hellish circumstances.I've never seen the original, which certainly has a better pedigree and reputation than this lightly regarded remake. The pieces are all here for the combination of tense drama and survival adventure the story promises, but in the hands of a less than accomplished director like John Moore (Max Payne, Die Hard w/a Vengeance), it too often falls flat despite the solid and game cast. Dennis "When they can't get Harrison Ford" Quaid heads an above board cast that includes Miranda Otto, Tyreese Gibson, Hugh Laurie and Giovanni Rabisi, the latter of whom steals the film as the weirdly enigmatic brains behind the plan they desperately cling to. The original is more highly regarded for sure, though as I said, I've never seen it. But if you're looking for a better executed new millennium film about survival adventure, I suggest The Grey starring Liam Neeson as this watchable but unremarkable remake never takes flight.
... View MoreI read a previous post that really had nothing good to say about anything regarding this movie. That's cool but I don't share that sentiment. I loved the movie I thought it was great. I enjoyed everything about it. Its a light, funny and enjoyable movie, with a slightly inspirational vibe to it. Its not heavy or too dramatic in any way, just an easy fun to watch movie. I liked all the characters and the way they played their parts, no complaints from me. Each movie is different so I rank them for what they are, I think its a solid 7 out of ten. There are some great songs throughout the movie as well which I really enjoyed. All round a nice easy to watch movie.
... View More"Flight of the Phoenix" is a 1964 novel, based on an incredible true story of survivors of a plane crash in the middle of the desert. If there was any way to do the book justice when attempting to make a movie out of it, it was in 1965 and starred James Stewart and Richard Attenborough. The film was a flop, yet has gone on to receive a large cult following.I like the overall look of the new film, but sadly this remake doesn't deliver anything decent enough via. acting or the tension that made the original so well loved. Dennis Quaid and Giovanni Ribisi are decent choices, but both are just a stone throw away from descending into awfulness themselves . Final Verdict: Do your self a favour and avoid, but I do recommend seeking out the original. 5/10.
... View MoreI suppose a remake can't be that different from the original, but watching the movie without watching the original gave me ESP, or the movie was just too predictable.Every event that occurred wasn't creative. The characters are not believable. The drama was way to scripted. I understand that it is a movie, but good ones take you out of the "I know what's going to happen" mindset for at least a few brief moments. Everything that happened could have easily been predicted without knowing beforehand. The most unpredictable thing that happened was the fact that the plane flew. No, I knew it was going to fly, but how they were going to do it was the unpredictable part: laying down and holding onto bars? Yeah, OK... I'd like to see anyone try that on any airplane without losing their grip at SOME point. In all truth, I enjoyed it, but it was so mediocre that I will soon forget about it.
