Very Cool!!!
... View MoreFun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
... View MoreA film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
... View MoreThere are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
... View MoreIn the beginning Flesh and Bone plants this seedy, dark murder mystery as its plot-line, or as I like to say, its 'plot-plant', then moves forth to fester as a sweet and lowdown love story which's fine, but the bloodshed in the beginning was so disturbing and so violent, it set the wrong mood for the movie. The 'plot-plant', as I like to say, wasn't given enough sunlight in the first stages of its growth (the opening murder scene) and then the 'plot-plant', as I love saying, was a smidge too watered down for the rest of its life (the rest of the movie). It has a distorted prism. I love Meg Ryan. I love seeing Meg wearing her 'boo-boo' bra so much for the first part of this movie doing her Southern accent. She isn't given her proper light either amongst the mix of all-time great gorgeous movie babes, overshadowed by girls like saay Gwyneth Paltrow, but not here! Ryan shines in Flesh and Bone all the way through. Meg's as beautiful as any lady you can think of, and she's really not a sucky actress. I really love Meg. D. Quaid is outstanding. Meg Ryan's so cute. She doesn't get enough credit for how cute she is. BULLCRAP! Or blue, green, pink, and white chicken crap I should say. Meg is so pretty, okay. She makes this movie for me. This is really good just uneven a bit. D. Quaid is stellar. Meg's super sexy in Flesh and Bone, the whooole time. We see Meg's tits in bed with Dennis, kissing and making love. Thanks Meg. You make me want to watch In The Cut now. Gwyneth lets her tits out too, which makes two all-time, top of the A-list A-lister supercuties, Meg and Gwyneth, topless in the same film, thank you Flesh and Bone and 1993 and our sweet maker. I love it and I love Gwyneth and Meg. J. Caan is great. Flesh and Bone's really soggy. I don't even know what that means but F&B is Gwynny's first big starring role!
... View MoreTo be honest, I had never heard of this film until I came across it on- line. The blurb sounded OK so I thought why not, it is slow and I could sort of see where it was going but having said that, the acting is good from all the main leads. A young Gwyneth Paltrow plays a brilliant misguided young woman who certainly has a murky past. I have never been a big Meg Ryan fan but this is probably the best performance I have seen from her, too bad it happened 20 years ago. The story is, as I've already said, quite easy to predict. The hole thing revolves around a traumatic incident which is witnessed by a young boy. Dennis Quaid plays the grown up version of that young boy and does it convincingly with an understated performance.I've given this film a 7/10 overall. I'd give the acting 10/10 and also the script 10/10. The characters are believable and the acting is quite naturalistic. The reason I give the film overall a 7 is the predictability.
... View MoreIf this film had been made in black-and-white in the 1940s, it would surely by now be regarded as a classic. But shot in sweeping colour, set against panoramas of the Texas outback, to a backdrop alternating between isolated bars and run-down motels, sunny plains and dark rainstorms, this must be one of the best modern films noir I've seen in a long time. The four main characters -- played brilliantly and understatedly by Quaid, Ryan, Caan and Paltrow -- are bound together as events unfold and their layers are gradually peeled back for us: aspects of the darker side of human nature that raise questions about blood ties ("flesh and bone") and feelings, guilt and conscience (or the lack of it), and responsibility.I'm surprised I haven't come across this film before, and delighted to have have it now in my collection. An unsung gem, tersely written and thoughtfully directed by Steve Kloves, and brilliantly visualised by cinematographer Philippe Rousselot and editor Mia Goldman. There are no excesses, great little touches and observations, hidden depths, and a lean story. Definitely one to see again.
... View Moreprobably one of the best vehicles for Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan. Palthrow and Caan were interesting also.I think Quaid is somehow irritating to watch as an actor. he is not handsome and I suppose appeals to a certain audience but not to me. Ryan was good- and this shows her girl next door sex appeal.Palthrow was very sexy in her bad girl role.Quaid always appears to me as a guy who had bad breath and stinky farts in school. I met him once when he was filming DOA in San Marcos. He is from Houston. His brother is ugly and knows it- Dennis maybe doesn't know it yet?
