I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

I'm not sure why FIGHTING DUEL OF DEATH has such a high rating on this site because it's a very poor and ultra-cheap movie from Taiwan. The backdrop of the movie is a contemporary thriller in which the main comes out of prison and straight away gets targeted by an old enemy who's gunning for revenge. I was little surprised to see Tomas Tang's name pop up as producer as this guy's name always seems to be associated with cheap film-making.The story is familiar and unsurprising. There's a wealth of fight action in this one but all of it is very below par and lacking in the most basic choreography. The cast members were unknown to me, their performances hidden behind the usual poor dub job. Even worse, the picture quality of this title is shockingly bad, a VHS rip full of fuzz and grain that continually saps the viewer's enjoyment. FIGHTING DUEL OF DEATH fully deserves to languish in obscurity as one of the martial art genre's most turgid entries.
