Sadly enough there were no mass revolts in the concentration camps, people just accepted the cursed fate that brought them to places like Sobibor.Probably a combination of charismatic leadership and just one too many straws that broke backs led to what happened. In Sobibor in East Poland the main leader is played in this film by Alan Arkin in maybe one of the best roles of his career. Who also turned out to be a valuable asset was Rutger Hauer and a group of Russian prisoners housed there who with a bit of military discipline were invaluable as this story is told. The two saddest scenes are what happened to Joanna Pacula's baby whom she was trying to hide. And young Jason Norman when he sees the gas chambers in operation and knows where his family wound up.Escape From Sobibor is definitely not for the squeamish. But films like this should be made and remade and never forgotten.
... View MoreI have seen all manner of films about the Nazi's fanatical extermination of Jews, be these films stories, fact or fiction, this part of world history, happened to other people. So, when I read reviews of such films which include the words, very good, exciting, wonderful, fantastic, I feel quite sick, because in my opinion the reviewer has given little thought to their words usage.Nazi Germany was a hell hole for 6 million Jews, and others, and Escape from Sobibor was no exception. The Nazis were brutal thugs, and what makes matters worse is, that they were also cultured, they had been brainwashed into believing what they were doing was right, and they didn't care how they did what they did.I have to give a rating for a true story, my rating with be five because the world must never forget. But I give a poor 1 star, to reviewers of films portraying this time in world history, as exciting, superb, etc, because these words are without doubt out of place on this, shall we say, issue.
... View MoreThis is a decent prison escape movie but to even suggest that it is a better holocaust movie than Schindlers List is laughable.Anyone who actually thinks this is an accurate reconstruction of what death camp life was like are seriously lacking in knowledge to the living conditions that these people actually endured. Everyone looks healthy and well fed and the film makes it look like if you stayed out of trouble life was OK. The barracks that the prisoners stay in actually look quite nice and enjoyable in this film.Overall, its a good escape film similar to Alcatraz but its nothing more than that

View Morei haven't seen a more captivating movie ever...easily the best movie i ever watchedeach frame of this movie would remain with u for your entire life. i considered Casablanca as my favorite movie, but now escape from sobibor has taken its place.it was touching, heart wrenching, exciting, thrilling at the same time. it made me cry, made me think, imagine, made me angry, frustrated and jump with joy (in some sequences) . the acing was top-notch, screenplay taut, the story mind blowing, more so because it was based on true story and the execution brilliant. there never was a dull moment in spite of being a lengthy movie. do yourself a favor, watch this movie (that is, if u have not watched it already!) irrespective of the genre of movies u like! u wont regret it, rather be too happy to watch this....very very highly recommended......
