... View MoreI gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
... View MoreAll of these films share one commonality, that being a kind of emotional center that humanizes a cast of monsters.
... View MoreThis movie couldn't really be called a remake of the film that starred Alyssa Milano in the 90s. Other than cast names one could only say it was inspired by the original. I saw someone mention the actress who played Charlotte acting like Kristen Stewart. This simply is not true. The girl was suffering from night terrors, ancestral memory flashbacks and delusions or waking dreams as they were referred to in the movie. She was traumatized not knowing what was real and what was not. She was on medications and had no living family and had been in a Catholic school, not to mention she was a virgin. She got a scholarship for fencing and this was why she was in college. She had reverted into herself and was extremely shy. The only thing negative I have to say about it was too many sex scenes. They were not needed. The story was a little hard to follow and most of the explanation came from the Gypsy lady or I assumed that was what she was by the way she portrayed her character. If you are looking for something that goes bump in the night you won't find that in this movie or the original which was more of a paranormal romance. It is about a girl trying to figure out what is happening to her, getting hazed by the fencing team because she was the newbie and trying to come to grips with her predicament. She didn't understand what was happening to her. They could have clarified more about her background and why she was taking meds. It was obvious but we don't see how these flashbacks and hallucinations begin and what the professionals were telling her since she was taking drugs. It's like she was just sort of dropped off at the school and you had to piece together what it all means. This is a B movie to me and a good one for that class. If you are looking for a 30 Days of Night type of a movie, you won't find it in this one. It's not the worst movie because I have watched many but just not an A list movie. It really would depend on your taste but I think it is one that should be watched more than once to get everything because of all the flashbacks and hallucinations in the film.
... View MoreWell the Twilight saga that I'm quite a fan of is over, so it's time to approach new vampire movies. One of the biggest non-cinema films of the genre in 2013 is "Embrace of the Vampire", a remake of the almost 20-year-old version starring Alyssa Milano. Unfortunately the hopes I put in this one were not really fulfilled. There's not really one single scene that genuinely scared me or had me on the edge of the seat. And I usually like films where the danger is sort of invisible, looking below the surface. The lead actress isn't too bad and the lead actor shows why he's one of the reasons behind the success of "Continuum". Unfortunately the two can't save the shoddy writing. It's the usual "innocent girl comes to new place and faces dark mysteries"-plot which was done so many times and most of the time better than here. Add a couple of the usual sorority girls and challenges (without the humor from teen comedies) and you have the typical example of a film where there's girls of every ethnicity and hair color and a virile guy and a boyishly cute guy, so there's something in there for every viewer's taste. Also, the film is quite explicit, almost soft-porn level: lots of making-out, boobs and even some girl-on-girl action, so you get horny at least if you don't get scared. The story seemed to be wandering aimlessly between dream sequences and reality, so you never knew what was real and what wasn't. It wasn't as effective as I'd have liked it to be and same can be said for the centuries-earlier-flashbacks and for the final exposure of the vampire. The only scene I at least enjoyed a bit was the group trip to the forest. The setting was pretty good and would have made a great choice for the big ending scene. Instead they switched back quickly to the place full of police investigating what happened. Shame. A good ending can't save a film, but it can surely make you appreciate it more with hindsight and they missed this chance by choosing a far less interesting location for the final scene. All in all, it's really only worth watching for die-hard fans of vampire genre. Everybody else is not missing much.
... View MoreSo this is apparently a remake of some soft core porno, you know the industry stooped low when they are remaking porn. This movie is very boring, maybe it has to do with the one dimensional characters that ooze blandness every time I see them. Maybe it's to do with the fact that the first hour doesn't make any sense. Charlotte has issues, yeah okay. Maybe it has something to do with the WTF Pre credits scene, all I know is the film jumps back and forth between reality and dream land. All that I got out of this film is college is a pretty gross place, the women are like some torture masters. They haze fresh-mens by forcing them to strip and drink hard liquor, and if they don't comply, they are beaten. And if that's not the worst part, Charlotte is molested by some lesbian rapist, this right here showcases the soft core source material, that and about a dozen other sex and nude scenes. Then she's got this pervert co-worker breathing down her neck, he gets touchy feely and even stalks her. At this point the film showcases how unlikable all of the characters are. So Charlotte succumbs to the basic human need for sex, and lets Chris(her co worker) do the deed. But he gets killed before he can do it, was I supposed to care, I'll admit I laughed a little. At this point in the film it's pretty much twilight with all the love and BS drama between the girls and boys. So when will this end, oh another 20 minutes, I'll just skip to the end. And that's it, she kills the vampire and has a good cry, because she is going to be the new vampire, or something like that. It's a terrible film straight from Canada, I knew that before the credits ended, it had a Canadian feel to it. I gave it a 1 out of 10, more so because it wasted my time, every thing about it is bad, and it's just a bland and uninteresting story. Gunga Gee Ga Gunga, as Elpresador would say, it's terrible people.
... View MoreI think i am the only one seen this movie because i am the only person here to write a review of this movie. what to say i first saw the trailer and then thought that the move will be at least be somewhat scary. but i was disappointed after watching the movie. the only pluspoint of this movie is it has two good looking chicks who have no idea of on screen acting but yes the director must have tried really hard to make them look beautiful and sexy on screen. That is the only credit i give to the director of this movie. other then that the move is a horse s.. see yourself to believe it.this movie has some of the worst special effects. look and feel of the move is less ordinary than any indie film.
