At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

The minimum is four lines, and it won't take much more than that for this one. The embassy in "Embassy" is the American one in Rome, and this easy-to-take pilot for a prospective series concerns the various problems faced by the staff, from criminals (Richard Masur) to an ambitious new employee who's after Mimi Rogers' job and boyfriend (Nick Mancuso). The movie was actually shot in Rome, which helps; though it might not have lasted too long had it gone to a series (witness what happened to "The American Embassy"), you won't resent viewing it in the afternoon slot or whenever. Nice Gerald Fried theme as well.
