It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

THE TIME OF HAPPINESS, the official and literal English translation of the original title sums up the film perfectly. This is a light, family-oriented (in the Spanish sense) dramatic comedy with a predictable cast of characters. Of real curiosity value is the cast. The parents are played by two of Spain's best adult actors (even back then), but the children and their friends are played by young actors who have recently blossomed into Spain's biggest stars: Fele Martinez (ABRE LOS OJOS, AMANTES DEL CIRCULO POLAR), Liberto Rabal (the male "Live Flesh" in CARNE TREMULA), Pepon Nieto, and Carlos Fuentes.
