I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

What can I say...? I bought the DVD, not because of the acting, but because of the soundtrack and the DJ cameos. Later, when i was watching the movie, I was impressed... The acting is really quite good and the plot is very interesting... Very sexy humor, great writing and directing...And of course, the music. The environment. Ibiza! Oh my God! Fantastic soundtrack, beautiful women... The scenario is incredible... All the major Ibiza clubs are there for you to enjoy, and maybe see them for the first time, or even choose where to go on your next vacations (nudge, nudge, wink, wink!)..."Hey DJ" is a great movie! Vibrant, funny, touching (at some point)! Buy it! See it! Do something! :)

The flick has some artistic glare, the color filter and indy-style help to taste the Miami/ibiza air, though, I skipped through most of this flick, the soundtrack rules, remembered to a lot of nicely laid tracks (mixed), though the inter-splice of DJs and promoed cameos is off--they jive so far from the story line--and it's so improved it jerks the rest of the movie. The girls are hot, though--sure enough, but unfortunately all come off somewhat lame -- not truly exotic like tru tecno iz I wish someone would make a flick more about the sickness of the scene, the best most off the wall raves, have the realness of the scene be the carrier, and the actors have to flow with it, rather than attempted integration into--plus, this "Elvis" character sucks, it's not about the music, it's about this nerd trying to learn how to spin... AKA, HE'S NOT A REAL DJ! One interview in the beginning even states it -- if you shouldn't be trying to be a DJ if you suck to begin with - it should be inherent what you are trying to do.moose.

This film was horrible... I really don't get it at all, why the raving about it?? what am I missing?? It's not like I'm an Action film fan or anything, I go Art-house over Hollywood 6 days outa 7, but this... Christ it was Garbage... The music was cool, yes, for now.. give it two years and it will sound terrible.. its just the nature of Dance music to do so... There was no acting and there was no plot.. Loser with no musical talent wants to be DJ, and somehow gets to sit down with a handful of A-list Dj's for beers and advice... There was no flow, just jumping from inexplicable encounter to inexplicable encounter, the Acting throughout was sub par for student work.. and the dialogue seemed to be all impromptuSPOILER- At one point our main character is auditioning for a DJ spot at a club (looks like the Space Terrace Ibiza, but might be anywhere..) he plays an Elvis record... no beats layed on top.., no remix J-XL style just an old Elvis record.. and rather than boot his lame ass onto the street the promoter tells him he'll give him another try, but he's gotta update his style????? WTFGarbage.. Avoid like the goddamn plague.

Recently, I was lucky to be at the Sundance film festival for a German music and film magazine and came across this movie for test screening by chance - i really didn't expect too much, since the title made me think it was one of these rather ordinary Dj movies - HOWEVER, it turned out be a twisted story with relationchips between friends and lovers..and women who are lovers..lovers as friends.. Along with amazing, breathtaking shots of the Miami Club Culture! I really got the impression that everything was almost as 'real' as it can be in a movie and the actors totally knew the background of the local music and club scene of this 'tropical paradise'(compared to Germany) that seems to be filled with hot women. Everyone involved in the movie gave a very good performance, but the one who totally stood out of the crowd, and is the one to look out for, is main actor 'DJ Fysche'. She really was not only a highlight to watch with her extraordinary cool outfits, her fresh and independent look but last but not least with her great artistic performance in this movie! I am sure she will be getting more major movie roles after this outstanding performance - definitely worth to recommend. To make a long story short, go and watch the movie when you get the chance, since it really is a fresh and inspiring experience to do so!
