Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

After watching the third Purge flick I took a look at lead actor Frank Grillo's credits for other Horror titles he has done. Checking each of the credits,I was taken aback to find a non-Horror/Comic- Book movie from Grillo that had an extraordinary cast. Being one of the films that I've been keen to see,I was thrilled to find it recently on the BBC,which led to me connecting. The plot:Wanting wind unpopular school kid Ben up,Jason and his friend Frye crate a fake online female profile who befriends Ben. Meanwhile, after losing their baby,Cindy and Derek Hull have become completely disconnected from each other. Searching for support,Cindy joins an online support group, one of whom has their eyes on credit card details. As Cindy gets involved in online chats,TV reporter Nina Dunham begins believing she has gotten a major story thanks to befriending underage video chat-room stripper Kyle,as Jason and Frye make Ben an internet star at school,by getting Ben to post a naked selfie.View on the film:Completely unaware of what his son is doing under his nose, Frank Grillo gives a very good performance as Mike Dixon, with Grillo carrying Dixon's blue collar outlook on family life with a no- nonsense approach to his job. Trying to find light in their marriage, Paula Patton and Alexander Skarsgård give excellent performances as the Hull's,whilst Michael Nyqvist stays on edge round them as a possible online "friend." Logging off from comedies, Jason Bateman dives into the burnt-out desperation of Ben's dad Rich Boyd,as Andrea Riseborough digs Dunham's glammed up nails into the seedy world of the "dark web." Avoiding any happy online stories such as finding a date or a rare film, the screenplay by Andrew Stern gives the criss-crossing stories an earthy grittiness, where the black mirrors of the online world are unable to reflect the search for peace from the Hull's or the battle Rich takes on to uncoil the wires round his family. Webbing the film in a dazzling slow-motion final, director Henry Alex Rubin & cinematographer Ken Seng keep to the offline mood of Stern's screenplay, via jagged camera moves crossing the wires of each offline profile.

I don't often feel prompted to write a review of a film on IMDb but this film was so good that I felt I had to promote it to other film addicts like myself. It is one of those films that really reflect the situation of many people's lives at the time we are living in. Disconnect is a perfect title for summing up the main theme - how people are so wrapped up in what they do and the technology sucking them in that they tend to ignore those who are closest to them, often thinking that nothing is amiss, whereas there are often problems bubbling away beneath the surface. The most striking aspect of the film is the script that really makes it so powerful, which is accompanied by some excellent individual acting performances and very powerful directing. I think the writer and director represent two very promising talents to watch in the years to come.

I was longing to watch this movie for a really long time, but usually I'm not in mood for dramas, however, this was totally worth of the time. The movie offers a great pack of actors, great acting as well, and presents actions that happens with people nowadays, starting from teenage children up to fully grown up men, that struggle with all kinds of stuff. The movie itself offers multiple story lines, and are somewhat linked to each other, in a really great way, in my opinion that is. Psychologically well built, the main line is about cyberbullying, not only about the victim, but about the aggressor as well, gets us pretty well into his perspective, and what has driven this person to harm other people. I believe this movie is somewhat of a reminder for parents out there, about how not to treat their children.

"Disconnect" is a techno-thriller directed by Henry Alex Rubin starring Jason Bateman, Alexander Skarsgård, Hope Davis, Paula Patton, Frank Grillo, Andrea Riseborough, Michael Nyqvist, Max Thieriot and Marc Jacobs (yes, Marc Jacobs as in the fashion designer). It's packed with a lot of drama, putting social media in the foreground and the problems that it can/has caused nowadays. The internet can connect - but sadly it can also disconnect, as we get to see in this drama. I'm not going to talk all professional with you, whoever you may be, because this film was just so powerful. I saw it maybe a month ago and I can't stop thinking about it. It makes me question everything I put on the internet, it makes me even a little paranoid when I look at my laptop (could someone be watching?), it makes me be more careful and I find myself looking at technology with a new distrust. It is thrilling, intense and so real. So, if you haven't already noticed I really like this film and i recommend it 100%. Jason Bateman's performance particularly stood out to me, as he captured the essence of this movie perfectly. He proved that he is on top of his game and I hope to see him pursue more dramatic roles in the future. The acting from the whole cast is great and the screenplay, lighting and filming only make it even more exciting. The story follows three separate groups of people, all of them having some kind of dilemma with social media. There is one Family, in particular a boy named Ben, a couple and a reporter trying to interview a video chat room stripper called Kyle. I'm not going to go into the story any further, it's better if you just jump right into the movie. All I'm going to say is that you should definitely watch this film. If you are thinking about it and wanted to read some reviews to be sure, what are you waiting for? Watch it! You won't be disappointed.
