Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
... View MoreThis film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
... View MoreWhile it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
... View MoreThere's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
... View MoreThe movie begins in Goa, where Raj leaves his auto repair shop to confront Mani for stealing a man's cell phone. Mani tells Raj that he is stealing it for his younger brother, whom he must care for after both of their parents died. While out driving, Veer sees a woman, Ishita, hitchhiking but his friend refuses to pick her up. However, after he stops the car to urinate and leave his friend and went back to ishita, and he agrees to take her where she needs to go, damaging the car in his rush to get there. For penance, Raj forces Veer to work in the shop day and night. Veer's friend Siddhu provides him with coffee so he can stay awake to fix the car. However, he falls asleep anyway and awakes to find that the car's sound system has been stolen. Siddhu takes it to a pawn shop to sell it, having stolen the sound system while Veer was asleep. The men of the local gang leader, King, try to sell drugs at a crab shack. Veer beats them up after they threaten Ishita. They then come back later to exact revenge on Veer, but Raj breaks up the fight. Raj's men find him at the hospital where Veer is staying and tell him they know where to find King's men. Raj goes to King's hideout, incapacitates the gang members, and burns their drug stash. Raj tells King's men his gangster name, Kaali. King stops by Raj's shop the next day to present a deal where Raj will fix all of King's cars in exchange for protection. The film then flashes back to Bulgaria. Raj is in a car chase with a rival gang, trying to make off with a container of gold, when he accidentally runs over a woman, Meera. When he gets out to help her, the rival gang catches up with him, and he has to leave. Later, Raj runs into Meera again, who works as a sketch artist. He reveals to her that he is a gangster, and that he is the son of Randhir Bakshi, the leader of the gang. Veer attends a boarding school where Raj only comes to visit once a month. Randhir and Raj talk about how Raj was adopted. Raj meets with Meera again, and she asks him to take care of some guys who are troubling her. She also asks him to celebrate her birthday with her the next day. He promises to take care of a job early and then meet her in the evening. The next day, Raj is engaged in a car chase. His car gets blown up and rolls over, trapping him inside. He is confronted by Meera, who he finds out is the daughter of the rival gang's leader, Malik. She reveals that their entire relationship so far was designed so that Malik's gang could have a chance to kill him. She holds a gun to his head, but she chooses to spare his life this time. Later, Raj gets a new car and engages in a car chase with Meera, eventually pushing her car to the edge of a cliff. He saves Meera from falling off the cliff, then tells her that the next time he sees her, he will kill her. Despite this warning, she later comes to his home and tells him that she loves him. At first he refuses to listen to her, but then he admits that he loves her, too. They make plans to tell their parents about their relationship.
... View MoreThis is once again nothing more than 'a mixed chaat' offered by the team taking references from here and there and presenting the same old things in a new smartly packaged product entirely relying on the two big names of SRK and KAJOL.Opening in a typical filmy style riding high on the brotherly emotion, the big brother influence of HUM is clearly there but with a highly artificial or less impactful execution ruining a potential plot. As a result you never feel anything emotional happening on the screen at all amongst the routine cars explosions, gun-fires, gang- wars and all forced comic sequences in the initial hour. In fact the flashback giving you the glimpses of the magical pairing of SRK- KAJOL comes as the only relief element in the first half along with the fresh looks of Varun Dhawan and Kriti in particular. But at the same time it's pretty strange to see the overplayed song GERUA inserted at such a bad moment when you are just about to walk out expecting an interval. Besides here we also have another inspired sequence of '5 minute date' lifted from one of the episodes of a famous western TV Series HOW I MET YOU MOTHER.Post intermission, the film continues with the same old routine storyline of gang rivalry, misconceptions leading to separation and then silly schemes being planned to unite the big couple again. But the most painful time watching DILWALE comes in its final hour when you repeatedly wish the film to finish off in the very next scene but the director refuses to do so and keeps on throwing vague (comic) sequences one after another adding to the unbearable length of more than 150 minutes. And wait, here too after almost 130-135 minutes you again have a song 'Daayre' that forces you to see your watch or mobile phone in quick intervals.Regarding the music, many might have liked the song "Gerua" but it was actually the 'Late Gulshan Kumar strategy' working here for the makers wherein he believed a song could be made famous by playing it on every possible format in a repeated mode by paying more. So honestly 'Gerua' and all other songs of the film were just average numbers for me (expect the enjoyable 'Tukur Tukur'), maybe because I am still unable to tolerate any kind of loud SCREAMING in love songs composed without any heart touching melody. Plus the so lame story- telling by Rohit didn't really allow me to feel impressed by either the cinematography, background score or dialogues, that once again give you a strong feeling of 'heard before' (read TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS).In all, DILWALE was a big disappointment for me and the only performance I loved watching in it was of Sanjay Mishra, saying his witty one liners in an entertaining style. However if you still wish to know what's in store here in comparison to the director's last SRK film, then DILWALE is not even close to Rohit's CHENNAI EXPRESS that at least had Deepika Padukone as its biggest savior.
... View MoreI have way too many flaws with Rohit Shetty's films. First, he makes a movies with purely just stunts, some of which don't really make sense as to why it relates to his movies. Second, the characters he made them do act like retards, like put some depth in the characters and their emotions man. And the third, NO PLOT whatsoever. All stunts, music, retards-like characters, and really no good movies. They all succeed in the box-office because of the hype when really it's just like every other Rohit Shetty film. Pure Nonsense. Just like Golmaal, Bol Bachchan, Singham and even Chennai Express, Dilwale unfortunately happens to be similar. Now with Dilwale. The story is about Raj (Khan) who was a mafia gang leader who turned straight and became a mechanic after his confrontation with Meera (Kajol) his former beloved when she shot him in the chest. Now Raj takes care of his younger brother Veer (Varun Dhawan) and Meera takes care of her younger sister Ishita (Kirti Sanon). However, a lot of comical situations and tragic happened when Veer and Ishita fall in love together and they try to get their siblings back together as well.Is all this new? Hell no. Because the plot was recycled from Hum (1991) and rival families going at it and children falling in love together just really made this boring. It's all too familiar. Why does Shetty even bother to make films if all he does is recycle plots and puts an all-star cast to hype it up, when really it makes no sense whatsoever. One thing for sure though, at least he makes better films than Sajid Khan. I really don't know what to say about the actors/actresses. They ALL acted like retards and have an IQ of 0. But then again, I blame Shetty for that. He clearly does not know what to put in for the characters. He only puts them in for more and more hype. The saving grace happens to be SRK and Kajol. Although overacting was flawed (Again i blame Shetty, the creative dummy) it was nice to see SRK- Kajol on-screen together and hopefully they get to be in more movies together, just not with Shetty please. The music was okay. The only song that stood out was "Gerua" the rest of the songs were okay. Overall, if Rohit Shetty makes films again, can it actually have a story and can it actually make sense other than picking it out from the garbage? it was nice to see SRK-Kajol but not in a Shetty film again.
... View MoreThis movie is really bad.Even 'Happy New Year' and 'Chennai Express' were better than it.This is really worst movie of Shahrukh Khan and probably worst movie of 2015.I don't know why Rohit Shetty directed this movie. There was no story at all.Overacting by Johnny lever and Varun Sharma. There were same repetitive dialogues in this movie that we have been listening since 1980's movie and story is also similar to Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'Hum'.Only music was good in the whole movie.Illogical movie illogical screenplay. There were too many plot holes in this movie.Despite having a great star cast, movie is awful.Rohit Shetty fails in his attempt in delivering a good romantic comedy family entertainer.Overall I give it 2/10.
